Hurricane Matthew

I'm in Northeast Florida and it looks like we are going to get a good slap from Matthew. My RV is under a shelter with house walls on each side for preotection but I was thinking I will put the jacks down for added stability. I'm thinking drop the jacks enough to barely lift the tires. Any suggestions?

Personally, having lived in Florida for 30+ years, I would be westbound in the motorhome, to the Pensacola area. NO way would I set in the Jax area for a cat 4 storm.

I always left the Jacks up and just used the suspension for the motorhomes. I feared damage to the Jacks if left down.

Leave the jacks up and let the coach bounce on the suspension. With the jacks inside the width of the tires the coach should be more stable with the wider foot print of the tires.

Its not how fast the wind is blowing but what the wind is blowing you need to worry about.

Rocking on the springs makes a lot of sense.

Hopefully it is far enough to sea to spare you the worst. The west side of the storm is much smaller than the east side. I'm in MD hoping it hooks to sea before it gets here, particularly since I have to travel this week.

I haven't been in real heavy hurricane force winds but one friend was and he received some damage to his jacks from the rocking during the high winds. Since then, when we have been in high wind situations out West, we retract the jacks and just let the coach rock on it's springs.
If you are protected on the sides from the wind, you shouldn't have to stabilize the coach at all.
