I can't seem to get on the road!

I thought I had all things fixed after a long summer of repairs. We got hit by hail last July and had a completely new roof installed and repaint on 2 sides of the MH. Then I took it in for a oil change and the Muffler & lift pump had to be replaced. Yesterday I went for an emission inspection and the guy driving the MH hit a skid and damaged the front bumper and now will be in the body shop for about 3 weeks. Our MH has been in a shop for repairs for about the last 4 months. We are planning to leave Colorado in late Dec for our yearly winter vacation. I'm just venting because we are so frustrated. Anyone having similar problems this year or am I alone?

Moparmaga2, I remember reading your horror story with that CAT engine. Nobody deserves that much bad luck. Your situation really is rare but was very real to you.

In the 7.5 yrs. in our '08 Dynasty, we never had a show stopper with our 425 hp Cummins with the particulate filter. The filter regenerated normally over 70,000 miles and now has a new owner that I expect will have good service.

I'm hoping that we have the same service out of our new coach, we'll see.

Wow, I changed out my leece Neville alternator for 750 bucks and kept the old one to rebuild. No issue getting to it. The benefit of a side radiator I guess.

Wow. I'd have that gov emission worker's head on a platter. AND I sure wouldn't wait 3 weeks for the body work to be done either. That's just your typical RV shop taking how ever long they want to. I'd be lighting a fire under them too. That's way longer than needed to replace a bumper.

You are a better man than me Charlie Brown or at least a lot more patient than I would be!

Sorry to hear you are running into obstacles delaying your lift off to warmer weather.

We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned,

And this is why I gave up my beautiful diesel pusher and traded for a Class C.

The breakdowns on the side of the road ( 8 engine disabling breakdowns in 3 years, and $40000 in warranty engine work in 3 years.) At some point these specialized class a diesels and class a gas rigs are just not worth the heartache. The hard access to specialized engine components is what does them in.

A new fuel pump for my diesel pusher parts and labor was $7000 and 1 week on side of road waiting on part. Access was extremely difficult. A new one for my class c Ford is $94 and I can go down to the local AutoZone and have it in 5 minutes and spend another 10 putting it in myself.

A new special order leece neville alternator for my diesel pusher cost me $2000 parts and labor in remote northern British Columbia (no warranty) and 1 week of sitting in my rv on the side of a tiny road watching bears walk around the rv and breaking into trashcans until fixed. Access to the alternator took both me and a mechanic and was extremely difficult.

A new alternator on my Ford class c would have cost me $100 or so and I could have driven back to the Napa in Watson Lake.3-5hours away in my tow car and been going within the day. I could have changed it myself.

The nearest alternator for my diesel where I broke down was 24 hours driving time away one way in Edmonton, Alberta. They literally flew my part into me in a small plane at local airport all the while coordinating this on a $2 a minute payphone 25 miles away from where we broke down. (No cell service) RE FREAKING DICULOUS!

Just my experience. I loved my diesel pusher, but at some point, the heartaches are not worth it and simple, standardized mechanical parts and access is best.

WE headed for Red Bay just for the "experience" and to have a couple of relatively minor issues attended to. two days out we had a too close encounter with a rock wall that destroyed the patio awning and seriously damaged the two topper awning on that side of the coach along with some paint and parts needing to be dealt with. So much for minor issues. When we arrived, the inspection team informed us that we needed to have the cap rails on the roof replaced and also the floor of the DS living room slide, both "good will" replacements, just more time.

What looked to be a two week service stop stretched to a month. But we continued to live onboard and experienced life in a different locale for a bit. The good news is that it all got taken care of and we both still have the same health we had when we set out onm this latest journey. Not sure I can really say that because we are 3 or more years older and you know when you get to Medicare age those years take more out of us than we choose to admit.

you haven't really lived until you've spent every penny, cashed out your 401k, and then told you can get 9k cash for it or have a new engine installed for 12k. your problems sound easier than ours.

Now you have a few less things to worry about. The pump is fixed, the roof is fixed, etc. ๐Ÿ™‚

Besides, you are going to be somewhere WARM while some of us are staying somewhere COLD. I'm thinking you should be all "smiles" as your vacation approaches.

Yes, the leaking lift pump can save having a problem while traveling this winter.
We already had 2 breakdowns on the Interstate last Jan and March that almost broke the bank to have fixed! After 15 years of RV'ing in a class A w/out any roadside breakdowns I guess we were finally over due to have one, but 2!!!

things happen like the pump better now than out in the dessert ,thats a good thing. new roof most likely fixed a roof leak you didn,t no about, the rest is just every day living enjoy your trip.
