would you buy bigger or smaller? We are on a 5 year plan before traveling long term. We have just begun to look at rvs. There are many really good sized rvs.I know there is such a thing as toooo small, is there such a thing as being too big. For those who are long term travelers would you buy, if you could buy something different today, a smaller size, the same size or larger vehicle. Please share what size you have now.

We went from a 30' class c, to a 34' class a. For all the reasons mentioned, I would go back to 30'in a heart beat if it had the storage space that our original 30' had. I agree 100% with the concept that floor plan is the key.

We full time in a 38.5 HR Ambassador. We have been very pleased and are now 1/2 way through year 2. No regrets. When we were ready to go ft and just sold the house we stopped on a whim at the rv dealer and bought this coach. Glad we did because 4 slides v 2 is night and day.
All that said we move around a lot and do some dry camping. If your vision is more of a stay 2 3 weeks at each stop I'd look hard at a 5th wheel

Our first was a 30' class C. We've found that to be the perfect size for us and are now on our 2nd class A of same length. We don't tow and find that at 30', we can easily get in and out of most shopping centers and attractions etc.

34 feet is big enough for me. Fits almost all camp site and I need only two parking spaces at the shopping malls. If anything, I would go smaller.

Thanks every one for your replies. I understand there is no such thing as one size fits all. I am just trying to get a feel from those who have done this before if there is never enough space, more is always better, or we have no need for so much space. I understand that everyones experience is different. Trying to find a starting place. We have a 5yr plan. We will look for about 3yrs buy during the fourth year(unless something comes along that is such a fantastic deal), get to know the rv for that year then take off in year 5. That is the plan. Thanks. Please continue to post from your experiences.

RVs are just like boats for most people. If it was only 2-4' longer it would be great. We had a 38' Mountain Aire with 2 slides that was great. Now that I am alone I have a 19' Roadtrek and a 26' GMC 1975 coach. My wife had always said that when I died she would get a Roadtrek to travel in. I thought I should do it in her memory. I spent about 35 nights in the Roadtrek last summer and when my daughter said which one was I going to sell I said I will probably keep both. 19' is very small and only big enough for 1. The GMC would let me take a few Grandchildren along. We never had a problem with the 38' in any campgrounds.

I agree with Oasis Bob - it's the layout that makes the difference. It's like the 5th wheel v. coach comparisons. They're both great, they have their different storage solutions and available living space, but our need is a bath and a half which we currently enjoy in this 38ft MH. I would not go any larger than a 40ft - we work at an Army Corps site in the summer and more than 40ft you're limited to one site and it's lousy.

We have had our 38' for about 5 years now. Our next RV will be 42' or bigger as that gets you into tag axles and all the carrying capacity that goes with them. I have driven two that size and I was incredibly impressed with the ride quality as well.

Is the number. We have had 27 foot ,31, 36 ft search for it and now a 39 foot. All were selected for their floor plans but we have found overtime that a little longer is great. We love having three slides. Washer and dryer has become a necessity. I think our current 30 8Q will be our last motorhome. It meets all of our name all were selected for their floor plans but we have found overtime that a little longer is great. We love having three slides. Washer and dryer has become a necessity. I think our current 38Q will be our last motorhome. It meets all of our needs

Bgger is NOT always better. Floor plan is mostimportant tome. I would probley go no bigger than 22 as some of my favorite USFS campgrounds limit at this length. We would be very comfortable in this size witha good lay out

I'm going smaller. I started with 33ft. It was 97" wide with no slides. For storage it had 4 usable bus sized bays, 2 on each side. Plenty of room for lawn furniture, Bbq grills, tools and spare tire. A big positive was that It fit into 2 tandem parking spaces at venues.

It was never too small for the wife, the dog and me. Unlike, the bear II, I liked having a smaller rig during inclement weather. It was easy to warm when the weather turned off cold and keep cooler when the temp runs into triple digits.

It was too big for some state and federal campgrounds and we would have been turned away at our favorite campground if they enforced their 30 foot length limit.

The biggest want, that wouldn't fit was an ice maker. There was no room inside to put one. I often wished to have more ice for refreshments. We didn't have laundry facilities but I like laundromats. If you need 6 washers use 'em.

We chose no slides because we also urban camp. Keeping a low profile is important. We never found a bus that was pleasant when the slide is stowed. Maybe there is one, but we never found it.

We have friends who are stepping up from a 40 to 45 foot. They mainly travel interstates from overnights at Walmart to longer stays at Casino's and RV resorts.

It all depends on your style.

We fulltime in a 33C (34'). Because we love the floor plan and the space, we see no need to go larger. We've stayed in quite a few campgrounds where a larger rig could be prohibitive - either the size of the sites or the number of larger sites available. As for storage, we still have empty space but are actively trying to shed weight for more batteries. The only thing a larger coach might provide for us is a greater cargo capacity. We don't need a second bathroom or another chair/couch.

I think a lot depends on how you live before you RV. We had a 1500 SF house but only lived in less than a 1/3 of it. We also don't have a need for 'stuff' so the rig doesn't get crowded. If we don't have a space for something, either it goes or something else goes so we do have space.
