Michelin Tire Recall - How Long To Get Replacement Tires?

I am taking my unit in to the local Ford dealer to get an oil change & replacement tires (due to the Michelin recall). I am reading some things on the 'net that supplies of replacement tires aren't real high. I guess that makes sense given the number of tires that need to be replaced. So, looking for feedback from others who had this done recently, is there a long wait to get replacement tires? I am taking the unit on an 1800 mile trip in about 4 weeks so really would like it resolved by then. Figuring that should be OK but just curious what others have experienced recently.

I think all of us seem to think they ride a little better.

Yep, I got 3 years of free usage out of the OEM tires.

I did have 2 of mine blow out or lose air quickly so I was very wary of going any more distance on them.

OP Here - All's well that ends well. I tracked down the Michelin LTX MS 2 replacement tires. I found them at Tire Discounters in Lawrenceburg, IN (suburban Cincinnati). Actually, they had to order them from their warehouse or distributor. It took calling around to quite a few places until I found them. They were installed this afternoon. We had some salt on the roads but I wanted to get them while they were still there. Maybe it's just my imagination but it seems like they ride smoother than the original tires. In any event, I figure I got exactly two years worth of tires for free (the originals had a date code of 0312 & the replacement tires have a date code of 0314). The receipt shows the total at $1374 (but the balance was zero'ed out). Good luck to all those searching for them. My advice would be to NOT wait until right before your first trip of the season. If anybody is in the Cincinnati area, reach out to me as I may have a couple suggestions on where you can find these.

Spoke to my local Michelin dealer today and they said LTX MS2 are back ordered. They said I could have Uniroyal HD/D replacements. Checked them out on line and not impressed. Called Michelin recall line and was told them don`t need the replacements right now as I live in upstate NY and weather is pretty bad. They said production will be able to provide stock by spring. Recall is not limited in time. Oh well!

My replacement set of Michelin 225/75R-16 LTX M/S2 are ordered. No ETA yet. When my dealer called them they asked him if I would except a substitute. He said no and that was the end of that. I'm not in any hurry as my recalled set only has maybe 2,000 miles on them at the most and from the looks of the weather report it's not going anywhere for the next few weeks.

I just ordered my Michelin LT 225/75R-16 LTX M/S2.
After a full day of researching my options I found that
Tire Rack has plenty. Not cheap, but if you want the Michelin's here they are.
I'm having them shipped to a local Tire Company to have them installed.

I have an F350, it came with BFG rugged terrains and they did well in ride and service, no noise. I replaced them due to age (gave the carcasses to my BIL for work truck) and put the BFG all terrains on when the time came. These have also been holding up well and ride is good as is service. I asked about these for replacements but they said that I had to go with the light truck to replace the michelins! Like many I am on hold due to lack of replacement tires and I have queried michelin and they had no excuse, but did provide a number to have sent in when they are? Anyhow the BFG's on the truck are good and as I said I would go with them for the rv but they wont install them as a replacement for this recall.

Michelin bought BF Goodrich, and Continental back in the 90's. Even though Michelin owns them, they are still made at a separate factory, and from what I have read, not the same quality as the Michelins.

Like I said in another thread, about this subject, we have decided to go with 4 Goodyear Wrangler Adventure tires with Kevlar side walls. Looks like as good, or better than the Michelin LTX M/S2.
In AZ, because of the heat, tires last about about a 1/3 less, than cooler climates, so the 60,000 mi. warranty is attractive.

How? I am assuming you are doing this on your own dime, right? Wouldn't Michelin only pay for Michelin (or their other brands of tires such as BF Goodrich)?

Yes, ours are not a recall. We were going to get the Michelin LTX M/S2 from Costco, but it looks like a couple of months, at least, before they would have any in stock, so I started researching tires, and decided on the Goodyear Aventures.

That's what I was thinking. As I said above, because the Michelins MS2's are not available they are only offering BFG or Uniroyal as replacements. And that's because those companies are owned by Michelin. The question I keep asking is how do those two brands compare to Michelin.

I am in no way a tire expert. But, IMHO, Michelin is superior to BF Goodrich or Uniroyal. Maybe it's because they spend so much money saying so in advertising that they are better. Maybe it's because Consumer Reports generally rates them high. Either way I feel like I am stepping down if I go with BF Goodrich or Uniroyal. And I paid for a vehicle with Michelins on it in the first place. I bought new. I figure the better tires were built into the cost. I just find it reprehensible that they issue a recall, don't have replacement stock, say they don't have plans to manufacture replacement stock, so take brand X instead.

This is what there press release said.

"The tread pattern works on all road conditions, according to Griffin, who describes the All-Terrain Adventure as โ€œan off-road capable tire with highway manners.โ€ Open shoulder blocks help clear mud and snow for off-road traction. Ridges provide traction on soft road surfaces. Biting edges and a new rubber compound also contribute to traction capabilities on wet and icy roads."

"The five-rib tread pattern adds traction but not noise. โ€œThe geometry elements of the tread pattern are designed to be quiet,โ€ says Marc Nowacki, project manager."

I guess I won't know for sure till I get them on and drive a few miles. I have only read one con concerning road noise, and who knows if that was the tires fault. Everything else I read had been positive.

Here is one quote.

"I got to drive a 2013 Chevrolet Suburban equipped with a set of Wrangler tires during a recent trip to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Goodyear brought a group of automotive journalists, tire writers and tire retailers to the mountain town in order to experience the adventure aspect of the new Wrangler. I drove on city streets, highways and curvy paved roads, fully expecting a noisy ride from the assertive tires. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Wranglers were as smooth and quiet as most other on-road tires I've driven on recently, and the sense of grip and confidence was up there with the best."

One of my concerns is road noise. They look like a more aggressive tire and although the Adventure tires might me more rugged, I would be concerned about the amount of noise they make on the highway. Last thing I want is more road noise on long trips.

I am finding that the tires on the front wheels have a different code than the ones on the back wheels. Is this normal?
