My understanding was that, using S&t with a GPS puck would allow you to plan an exact route that you wanted and then follow it like a Garmin type GPS. Is this correct? Advantage of planning your own route & bigger laptop screen.
I believe only S&T and Delorme programs had that option?

Also,
I tried the WAZE app on my IPhone6 today - Very neat little program showing me real time slow traffic, break-downs, police officer locations, etc. on my commute home tonight. I understand it will also re-route you around major tie-ups. This would be great to have running along side a laptop running S&T in the motorhome!
Only drawback I found was that I couldn't get it to play thru the phones external speaker or through bluetooth connection on Ford sync?? It was just coming thru the normal phone speaker like you had it up to your ear.

WAZE is not a road trip or trip planning software - its a NAVIGATION program with some (on the fly) searchable & realtime integration.
I was under the impression S&T (the subject of the post) was primarily a trip planning program, and not a navigation program. If Google's WAZE doesn't do trip planning, how is it a valid alternative to S&T?

Many of us can use the tethering mode on their phones to connect a laptop (if theres no other free internet wireless connection) & further GET A MiFI / personal hot spot - with the shared data plans i now have 60 GB to share between the MiFI & my smartphone - for an inexpensive $125 bucks per month.
What carrier offers 60GB for $125?

It sounds like Delorme is not well liked and there are no other programs like this?

I bought the new 2015 version of Delorme Street atlas, and so far am very disapointed with it. Guess I am just used to S&T, and haven't got up to speed with Delorme yet. I have a lot of trouble just trying to save maps, and even more trying to recover and reuse. POIs are missing or impossible to find, and route choices arelimited to fastest or shortest. So far, I have found several map errors in streets being in the wrong places, and unable to locate places by street names. Called DeLorme about one problem, and they did not seem to be interested.

Do you actually create a route, or you just having it on for messages concerning traffic, radar, etc.?
