My 2004 Class C Four Winds MH a Chevy 6.0 not wired for a trailer brake. I went down to Trailer City and they said the cost would be 300 plus parts. I though that was a bit expensive. They charge 85 bucks a hour. My old Dodge was already wired for a trailer brake. Just plug it in and that was it.
We don't travel as much as we use to. I guess we are getting old.I want to go out west one more time.

My Ford was not prewired. I called around and found a better rate at a trailer repair/hitch shop. Did the job complete in about an hour.

I had to run wires for the brake controller and inside cargo trailer light for the 2004 Chevy 6.0 made by Fleetwood. There was no prewiring in the cab so I ran wiring from the battery with breakers.

My 05 Four Winds, built on an 04 cutaway Chevy chassis came with a flat 4 connector for toad lights. It looks like it might have been added by Four Winds since it does not look like it is an extension of wires from the original frame.

I'm not sure what Express cutaway actually has.

Econoline cutaway, RV upfitters package, has power line for controller (fuse needed), and connectors for lights to end of frame, and a charging line. Maybe the brake line too, not sure. Up to RV maker to extend thes from end of frame to end of RV and hitch position, and wire into a socket.

Big difference in labor, installing just brake controller wiring, vs all the wiring for trailer towing.

That's something like three hours labor, for what might be an hour to hour and a half job. Probably too much.

But I'm not that good at estimating these tasks. My local RV dealer wanted $320, four hours at their shop rate, to install a base plate. Couldn't get to it for at least two weeks. Job looked simple, plastic fascia and bumper core to remove and replace, four holes to drill in subframe sheetmetal, six bolts to install.A couple or three hours.

Job took my nine hours spread over two days, laying and squatting on the driveway, in the sun, with official temps in shade 92F to 98F. Dealer will install the next one.

Ford Chassis, correct me if I'm wrong, is pre-wired for trailer lights and brakes, just no controller, maybe no final receptacle.
Does this Chevy have at least trailer light wiring?

That is odd, mine is, but it is A Fleetwood product and a lowly EX Rental at that..:B

Have to run wiring harness for lights, turn signals and brakes, a harness for brake controller plus receptacle.
If nothing is pre-wired from factory then need to do the whole set up. Not highly complicated just time consuming and pain in rear end crawling around under/in rig to run the wiring harness.....time is money.
Is it time for your medication or mine?
