Name this class B sprinter conversion

Hi,

I saw an interesting sprinter conversion a few years ago and may want to buy one now. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of it and can't find it after hours of internet searches. I hope one of you can help me.

The van had a high fiberglass roof that extended over the cab like you see on some class C motorhomes. There was a mattress in that high roof.

The rear of the van contained the shower/toilet combo.

The driving, passenger and first row seat was basically standard stuff. The seat probably turned into a bed or something.

The drivers side behind the second row seating had the sink, kitchen cabinets, etc.

The passenger side behind the door had a European style refrigerator that was top loading and not very big.

The upholstery was yellow and grey (I think) and highly durable fabric. The floors were NOT carpeted and were made for easy cleaning. I don't remember the material. It might have been rubberized.

I saw this RV about 8 to 10 years ago at a dealer in Florida about halfway between Orlando and Tampa. They had several units in stock. I would greatly appreciate any help in finding out which make and model it was.

Thanks.

Travis

that sounds terrific.
I will see, if I can join this meeting in 2014, when I'll be RVing in the US.

In Germany, I'm running a "Westfalia Sprinter Van Owners Club", called James Cook Freunde.

In 2012 we had a big meeting at the Westfalia Factory. I shot a funny timelapse movie there: watch it at youtube

Travis, if you're on the East Coast, Norfolk, there is an annual Westyfest gathering on Cayuga Lake, Finger Lakes district, NY, which occurs over the Labor Day weekend. Around 15 or more Westies get together. If you're interested, contact me at jujupang@yahoo.com. Or keep checking the yahoo Westfalia postings, one announcement has already been made but more will follow.

If you are interested in finding out more info on the airstream westfalia ou need to go to s the yahoo westfalia owners site . You just need to register , do not need to be an owner. Any westfalia s that come up for sale will be mentioned there . Only 225 of them were imported and they are all 2005 model year. They are really holding their value. They are great little rvs. I have one and love to drive it.

If you ever want to make a custom RV. Sprinter top You could call them.Their prices are very competitive, about $2,000 less than Sportsmobiles tops when I inquired about a top..Have them do the top and windows then have a company like Sportsmobile do the interior.

The Airstream Westfalia was the first B we looked at. I liked it a lot. That climb to get in bed was the main factor for passing on it. The other factor was when we looked at it at a dealer the salesman couldn't demonstrate and pull out the lower bed. I get pretty impatient when a salesman can't show you something or answer your questions. In Europe that similar design is still being sold as the James Page.

Most Sprinters have the 6'-3" headroom. I know a few tall Sprinter B owners and they seem to handle it well. The headroom is pretty clear from front to back with the exception of the 2" air-conditioner intrusion. The other positive factors of a Sprinter are the level floor from front to back, the upper cabinets are not head bumpers when you sit down on the sofa or bed in the back or getting in and out of the cab seats in front, and the sliding door is tall and easy to enter and exit without bumping your head as you may experience all these in a RT Popular 190.

As far as aisle width goes for Sprinters, the Great West Van Legend probably has the widest aisle at a minimum of 26-1/2" clear at its narrowest point front to back. My wife and I can easily pass by each other with a little bit of sideways twist. Most Sprinter Bs one has to wait until the other passes.

Probably your next best alternative will be a Sportsmobile pop-top, either on a 144" Sprinter, Ford, or Chevy base.

I looked up the RT Agile SS. Head room is 6'3". I'm 6'2" without shoes which makes the fit very tight. I also have very wide shoulders and the narrow "hallway" to the back through the galley is uncomfortable to turn around in.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a more spacious class B (similar to the Airstream Westfalia)? I realize you give up certain things like lots of storage and extra seating with this type of van.

Unfortunately, I am uncomfortable in my RT Popular 190. Getting in and out is an event, I'm always bent over and turning around in the thing takes some doing. The van has lot's of great features and is quality, yada-yada but I find that I don't use it.

Thanks!

Arizona Kid,

Thanks for the tips to find the camper. Your assessment of the interior is accurate. The top bed is difficult to get into. Thanks for your tips on the other models. I will check them out.

Fred,

That was it. Thanks for sending the link.

snowman 9000,

Thanks.

I haven't found any of those models for sale right now. I did find several places with models that have already sold. I'll check out other models that may have the features I want.
