OK to run furnace while traveling?

Do you all run your gas furnace while traveling down the road? Is there any problem with doing so? The electric heat is loud and doesn't work very well when it is this cold.

Seriously? So you can't run your fridge while traveling either I guess. You need to turn these devices off before refueling and at other times but that doesn't mean you can't use them while driving down the road. The 75 gallons of gasoline I carry is just as big a bomb as the propane.

The thing many folks worry about when running the furnace down the road is what happens if for some reason it blows out.

Modern DSI furnaces... Either re-light or go into ignition lockout and shut down, completly, 100% safe.

Older pilot type (Assuming such exist) should also go into safety shutdown.

The danger.... If you get hit "Just so" and rupture a propane line, then the only thing that prevents the busted line from turning into a torch is the excess flow valve in the tank... The safety devices in the furnace are near foolproof, (In fact I have never heard of one failing) but the valve in the tank is not all that well tested.

Our dash heat will keep up with the heating needs for the front, but if it's cold out and we want to go to sleep as soon as we stop, I'll usually start the rear furnace an hour before we stop.

If it is real cold where the dash heater can not keep you warm, there is nothing wrong with running the furnace. I have done it before when traveling through real cold weather.

Or if your coach is equipped with heat pumps, you can also run the generator and turn both heat pumps to warm up the coach.
