Order from factory vs buy off lot?

Looking for feed back from those who have purchased new.

Considering a new Winnebago class A. Obviously want the best price possible.

Should we buy off of the lot (if we find what we want) or order one built.

First thought is that there is probably some expense tied to putting a motorhome on the lot. That expense would have to be passed on. Also, it is harder to compare MH's on different dealer lots as there are always different options.

If we spec one out, it would be easier to get multiple quotes on the exact same product. More competition should be a benefit. Dealers might take a smaller profit on a sure thing???

And I have done both as well. The ordered unit was priced ok but lukewarm. The current coach was a "last of the previous model" blow out with much heavier discounting. It did have a few options I wouldn't have ordered.

Both will show new but someone could've farted in the one on the dealer's lot. I've done both and felt I saved some money buying the dealer's product....

The farting or the buying???;)

Couldn't resist - thanks for the input.

Have done both. Current DP was ordered thru a dealer with factory delivery. Liked factory delivery best as I did the walk thru with factory techs who know the rig and know their stuff. Most dealers don't do walk thrus well! If I were to buy another new rig I would only go thru the factory.

We ordered both of our units new with a factory delivery. The price was important but not the major focus. What was important to us was getting the coach exactly the way that we wanted (colors, amenities, options). The prices that we paid seemed to be 'middle-of-the-road' from what I have read. Generally, 78% of MSRP.

I would think you could get a better deal on a unit that is on the lot, but maybe not. Give it a try and see what happens.

Good luck,
MM.

If you buy from the factory, it'll be NEW!...buying off the dealer's lot may mean it's been shopped a bit. Both will show new but someone could've farted in the one on the dealer's lot. I've done both and felt I saved some money buying the dealer's product but had to settle for a couple things I didn't want/need. Also, my opinion, I would never buy new again as the first year depreciation cannot be justified.......Dennis

I've done both. One is just as easy as the other and the dealer has their markup built in either way. If it's a really one-off with a lot of different options they may want a larger deposit on the order if it looks like it would be harder to sell if you pull out. Wait time on the order is the biggest issue.

I ordered my class A winnie to get exactly what I wanted. if they would have had it on the lot I would have gotten that one instead. they probably are pushing the in stock items to clear their inventory.
