Picking up at Oakland Airport

Picking up my cousin at the Oakland Airport. Any problem doing this in a 38 foot motor home towing a car? I'll be doing a curbside pick up. Any height problems? I've looked on Google Earth and looks to ok. Thanks

You are NOT driving a bus or a shuttle.

At some airports, that can cause you a MAJOR problem.
Depending on the threat level at the time, maybe a VERY MAJOR problem.

They may not let you continue down the bus lane AND there might not be any good way to turn around either.

Let us know what you ultimately did. I have used my 29' unit to pickup people at an airport and used the bus/shuttle lanes.

How about parking at the closest lot you can find and having your family use Uber to get to you. A lot easier for everyone.

I did it a couple years ago at Daytona Airport no issues.

Busses do it all the time. Just use a bus lane.

On our way to Sioux Falls airport to pick up some guys in our 37' Class C. Was told we would not be able to go into an airport in an RV by a friend who said it was a new TSA rule. Got to airport. Pulled into cell lot and waited for a call to pick up. Drove up to front, picked up everyone. No one came out not did police come up. Of course, this was South Dakota where everyone is friends.

Not saying this would be the same at Oakland or any other major airport.

Maybe it's done all the time. And maybe you would be a suspected terrorist, pulling up in front of the terminal in a huge vehicle.

Good point.

And unfortunately the airport is near some rather marginal areas. Stay at a CG and pick him up or have him take a taxi to you. I would NOT leave the rig in some parking lot. Granted it may work out...

BTW 880 is not my favorite road. Post your plans and I'm sure we can give you some help.

I agree Iโ€™d pick up in the toad .. may be not a problem with space but large vehicles are a hot button for police nowdays . Especially in a large target area like a airport . You have the toad .. seems easy to use it without the attention the motorhome will attract.

I certainly can imagine that it can't be done......for several reasons.

I would never try it at ANY airport these days. Certainly not without calling ahead. Advice in a forum like this is less than useless for something critical like this.

Find something like a big box retailer close by and have him take a cab to meet you there. MUCH easier.

I know nothing about the Oakland airport, but I wouldn't do it. I'd unhook the Toad in a nearby shopping center and pick him up with that.

Although I've never tried it, I can't imagine it can't be done. The problem you may have is with the police not allowing you to stop and block traffic while picking him up. I doubt you'll be able to find a place on the curb to pick him up. I think if it were me, I'd find a place to park the motorhome and drive the toad over and get him.
