Pulling a pop-up with your A

Friends of ours have a pop-up and they like to go camping with us occasionally - except on long trips. I offered to pull their pop - up behind our A. I have plenty of capacity and it's well under the weight limit. Is there any reason this is a bad idea? I couldn't come up with any reason why this can't be done. It has brakes, it's light enough and length is not an issue. I can park it for them, etc. Anyone ever done this?

Every so often we would pull our kids "pop up" to the campground behind our diesel pusher. We're retired and they are still working. This way, their "pop up" was in place and ready to go when they arrived after work. They usually towed it home.

It was just a little embarrassing when people asked, but I told them it was for the maid.

Sister and BIL pull an old stripped out boler with their Vanagon. The girls call it the condo!

Can't imagine that a class A and a pop top would be any harder!

We used to pull a pop up behind our 27' Winnie. The older kids used it for sleeping quarters as they liked to stay up around the campfire much later than we did. That said, CHECK THE TIRES ON THE POP UP!! The originals were rated at 45 MPH...The best I could find in that size were speed rated at 55MPH but they were expensive. You won't know it's back there unless you blow one of those tires, the you'll get a wake up call...just sayin.....Dennis

I've seen somebody tow a small 16ft travel trailer behind their class A. So I imagine if you are in spec, you should be fine.
4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

Pulling a pop-up with a motor home is just taking the room addition along. It's a great idea.

How would you all get around or sightsee after 'camp' is setup? :h

As someone else stated, just don't make sharp turns or U-turns ๐Ÿ˜‰

I think that's a consideration anywhere you don't take your toad. Frankly a lot of places we don't take it due to the ability to bike to the beach, public transportation etc. Most of our places are water based so it's all about the beach. I was also thinking about this when our son got older and wanted his own camper. A pop-up is a nice solution to his own set up.

I do this once a year during our annual road trip to the Iowa Speedway for a Nationwide race. 7 guys in my class a pulling a pop-up. Gives them all a place to sleep!!! LOL ๐Ÿ™‚

I do not really even know it is back there ... until I go to fill-up the gas tank.... I don't know if it is pulling the pop-up or the fact that I have 7 full-size dudes or the 800 pounds of beer and ice .... but I get about 5 mpg on this trip. Normal is 7.8...

I have towed many things but not a pop up. I do not is any reason it could not be done. My only concern would be when having to make tight turns. The pop up may hit the motorhome.

I have seen toads and trailers hit motorhomes that have a 50 degree wheel cut.

You won't even know it's back there. Only real problem I could see is reversing it will be difficult. You may want to bring a wheel for the jack so you can unhitch and push it into place.

What's the difference in this and pulling a boat? Not even that hard to back up as I do it all the time... click on "How I tow" below.
