Question on replacing old Galaxy Toilet w/ New AquaMagic V

I've got a 1992 Pace Arrow 32', and I have a seal leak that keeps the water flushing continuously, and the flap hole o ring is shot because the bowl doesn't hold water worth the damn. The toilet is an ugly yellow-biege so I attempted to paint it black several years ago. The paint looked good and helped up good for a year or so, and now is in bad condition.

At this point I am thinking it may be a better option to just replace the toiler with a brand new Aqua Magic V, as they are $99 here omline: http://www.rvpartscountry.com/Aqua-Magic-RV-Toilet-Thetford-High-Profile-Foot-Flush-WO-Water-Saver-W...

I am wondering if I am going to have any issues with swapping the old toilet out for the new one? Is the fitment the same and is it relatively "plug and play" so to speak?

Another reason thats making buying a new toilet make sense as well, is that I own this granite company, and I just installed a 2cm lady dream granite top into the little vanity inside of there. It really spruced the bathroom up, and I'm going to be doing the kitchen and bedroom end tables in granite during the upcoming weekends.

Anyways, will the new Aqua Magic V toilet fit just fine in my 92 pace arrow? And how much are the seal repair kits on the older starlite/galaxy series toilets. If it's $20 vs $100 I might repair the old toilet. If it's $35 or more I think I'll just buy a new one.

Heed what PUCampin pointed out, for sure. This is what kept me from replacing the toilet in our old RV. The factory toilet had a dimension of 7-5/8" from the back wall to the center of the outlet; there was NO other toilet I could ever find (even after inquiring of Dometic and Thetford support folks) that would fit in that dimension. Just before we decided to trade it in, I was even considering cutting a recess in the wall behind the toilet in order to get enough room to mount SOMETHING different. That dimension is the killer!

Here is a pdf that I found that shows replacements available for a galaxy starlight toilet. I am not sure yours is a thetford or not.

From that document I think you will be fine with the one from amazon.

If the flange is 90% off I would remove the current bolts that hold the toilet, drill holes at the right location for the new toilet through the flange and use these bolts that screw into the wood below the flange to hold the toilet.

You know, this got me all thinking. And now I am leaning on this dometic RV porcelain toilet I found on amazon. Porcelain would be so much nicer then plastic. Here's the link. http://www.amazon.com/Dometic-302310071-Standard-Height-Toilet/dp/B008K6I1RU/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive...

Do you guys think I'd have a problem with space / flange fitment with this toilet coming from a galaxy starlite in a 92 pace arrow 32H model?

One important number is the rough in number, or the distance from the center of the hole to the wall. Different toilets have different rough in distances. The Aquamagic 5 has a fairly shallow rough in number making it work in most applications. HOWEVER the Aquamagic 5 is a POS!!! It is made as a disposable, about the only thing repairable is the blade seal. There is no pipe that goes straight down to the floor, but opens to a internal chamber that is nearly impossible to get clean. Mine lasted 2 years and had a seal fail that was not replaceable, I had to by a new toilet. I bought a Style II. Many replaceable parts, easy to work on, china bowl, and no splash chamber. If you can fit anything other than a aqua magic 5, you should.

the new toilet doesnt come with the flange. you can probably modify the existing one to work. i did using a dremel tool to cut new slots for the hold down bolts. you wont want to try to remove the old flange , that can open up a whole nother can of worms.

Would the new toilet come with a mounting flange that could be easily made to work, or does the original mounting flange have to be modified to accept the new toilet? Thank you

The water line will have to be lengthened and the mounting flange will Need to be changed or modified to accept the hold down bolts in the 3and 9o'clock positions instead of the 5and11o'clock pos. As it is now. It's best to buy a new one and make the modifications.

You can take a look at some pictures of the granite install in the pace arrow if that interests you.
