Question re: shotgun in MH

I know the need for a ccp for a handgun carried in the MH and that a ccp issued in one state might not be honored in all states.BUT BUT can shotguns be carried legally? Or, do regulations concerning shotguns vary depending upon the state(s) being traveled in?

Even with the proper paper work, a friend recently had to ship his shot gun back home from Canada. Because he was not headed to AK the boarder guard stated he did not need it in Canada and could care less that he had all the proper forms.
This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

I carry a 12 ga. combat shotgun in the closet when I am in the road... 18" barrel, pistol grip pump shotgun.. I feel if you go up against more than one person, That clack-clack it makes when you are jacking a cartridge in it is a great attention getter.... And if they are dumb enough to continue after hearing that they deserve to be shot.. I hope I never need to use it, but if I need to protect myself I feel it is better to ask forgiveness than ask permission...

So, if something happens, is your answer going to be... " but your honor, they said it was ok on my RV forum" ?

Take the time to educate yourself instead of asking others advice on this subject. I could be incorrect, but my guess is, no one here will be willing to go to court and stand up for you.

Just an opinion from a couple with Az ccw's.

You can NOT carry a loaded shotgun in Nebraska! You can however open carry a loaded rifle or handgun, and you can carry an unloaded shotgun also if you are concealing them they need to be in a case and out of the drivers reach. I have carried in Nebraska for over 20 years with no issues. Trip to Canada in June with a 30-30 through South Dakota and North Dakota up through Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Stopped at the border and filled out the paper work no issues.

Or you can just invest in some good martial arts training and not worry about carrying any big iron.

Unfortunately this is not true. DON'T take your shotgun into Washington DC, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts or NYC ....

I probably wouldn't even take my RV to those places, so I'm safe.

RE: Long walk home, I am home when in my RV in a campground.

I am unarmed, have been for 71 years, have been RVing that way for 13 years. Have yet to see an occasion where I or anyone else would have been better off had they been armed. We boondock, we drove to Alaska, we usually hangout where there are other RVers, but not always. If a place doesn't feel comfortable I move on. That has happened a time or two, but always before we even started to set up.

I only hope if one of neighbors with a weapon has to shoot somebody that the bullet doesn't penetrate my coach.

Safe and quiet travels to all.

Bob,
Where did you get that information? Just curious, as I have not been able to secure what you have stated. Have looked numerous times, as once we were at an RV Resort that looked an awful lot like a VC Village. We stayed one night and moved on the next morning.

This has been discussed here on the forum many times and the most common and accepted answer for a shotgun in the RV seems to be that; it can't be within reach of the driver, it can't be "sawed off" (or have a barrel of less than "x" inches), and it can't be loaded with a round in the chamber.

As for your RV being your "home" and exempt from illegal search and seizure, the courts have ruled that an RV on the road (or movable) is not protected and can be searched without a warrant by a LEO if he/she has probable cause. If the RV is on blocks and can't be moved, then the LEO has to get a warrant.

Because I am not looking for a battle on my camping trips. I want Peace and calm. I can hook up my camper and leave or call the police (911).

I live in the so-call Gunshine State of ( florida)

too often you don't get the choice.

Im sure no one is looking for a battle (criminals aren't either) - but i won't be a victim either ! When seconds count, the police take minutes !

You are one CME a long walk home. I always carry a weapon and plenty of ammo. Next time you are at your favorite campground, just ask yourself how long it would take to walk home. It could happen.

We traveled FT for 7 yrs.
Carried a 'coach gun' (side by side 12 gs) and various pistols & some rifles from one end to other end of US.

Why? Cause I grew up with weapons, have used weapons, been around weapons etc. my whole life. Weapons were just another tool used on the ranch, hunting, plinking, Cowboy Action Competitions and defense should the need arise. As a legal American Citizen I have that right and I exercise it...frequently.

A shotgun is one of the best (and least restricted weapons) one can carry while traveling.

Your choice may be different and that is alright also. I choose to carry.
Is it time for your medication or mine?
