Rude Campers

We stayed at rainbow Springs State Park in Florida for a week from December 20th to 27th.

On the 27th Saturday we began to disconnect and put away some things prior to leaving before the 1 pm checkout time.

A man from 3 sites down came by our site and asked if we were leaving soon as he was reserving our site. I said yes, but not for a while(this was at 1030 am.

A bit later the work camper came by and said for us to stay till 12:55 before leaving as the man was very pushy towards her and the Ranger in the office.

We walked to the dumpsters, took the trash and then took a walk down to the river and back. I put the dogs in the Rv and walked up to the ranger Office to check on a refund I had coming.

Less than 2 minutes later in comes Mr. Rude and he just stands there listening to myself and the Ranger talk about the refund I had due.

He never spoke but was right next to me. I didn't say anything nor did the Ranger. I then told the ranger we would be leaving in a bit( it was 1230 then)...as I left I told the Ranger thanks for the help and said to Mr Rude, We are leaving soon , so you had better hurry and get back to your site so you can get over on mine. Never said a word back.

He had been standing at his RV for 2 hours looking our way like we were gonna rush off for him....not gonna happen!

Not being there I have no idea what interaction went on between 'camper, cg host, ranger' BUT from your post I do know that YOU got suckered into a tantrum thrown by cg host.

After that YOU were a willing participant

WHY?
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Best time for a good outdoor nap.
4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

Sorry you found his actions as rude but I fail to see what he did that was wrong. One might even wonder about your own actions of staying longer than you'd planned for seemingly petty reasons. I've usually found it better to not become involved in other people's disputes, especially when you're only hearing one side of the story. I'd rather not listen to either side and form opinions based on my own experience.
Good luck / skip

I'm going to have to agree with Skip on this one.

The workcamper was unprofessional & spiteful in asking you to stay to the last minute just to spite the other camper. The workcamper's behavior says to me that the workcamper might have been equally unprofessional to the other camper.

Then when you were clearly delaying your departure, the other camper was justifiably annoyed. He probably went to the office to make sure he wasn't going to get screwed over with the campsite assignment.

Your mistake was in getting in the middle of the dispute. You should have just gone about your business as you would have otherwise.

Another camper asking when you plan to leave is not rude, nor is watching to see when you leave. Seems to me that staying late, as you did for no reason, and the camp host's behavior, is extremely rude. You and the camp host are the guilty ones.

An hr and a half before check out a camper asked you if you were leaving and he stayed in his RV to watch for when you left so he could move to your site. I fail to see how that is rude. Think about what you did.

A lotta to do over nothing. Life is to short to let this stuff bother you.

Great post. I leave when I am ready to go. Go into sites when empty. I don't let this petty stuff bother me. Here we have a camp host that has a petty grievance and wants to involve other RVers. When my DW does this I turn my hearing aids down. Life is too short for me to change my schedule for some petty disagreement that involves other people. If the guy came to my site and asked nicely I'd probably leave early. JMHO

Glad to see the OP is from Florida. Most state park sites are generally unavailable to us during the snowbird season.

The snowbirds have to expend a considerable amount of time and effort in order to book their sites < 365 days in advance and have to do quite a bit of moving from site to site and park to park in order to spend the season down here.

The rude dude certainly is part of this dance and should know better than to bother anyone with Florida tags in a state park during the season.

Hats off to the OP for:

-getting a site this time of year

-staying until check-out time and enjoying the park until it was time to check-out

FWIW Florida welcomes the non-residents with no difference in prices vs. Florida residents. Most are fine with this, just don't expedite our departure when we are fortunate enough to get a site.
