I have a 40 ft RV and will be pulling a 32 ft trailer. 80 ft total lenght.
Is that legal?

Your OK if you travel to Washington State, but you will have to stop at Port of Entry and get a over length permit. This permit will tell you where and what times you can travel. You will also need several over length placards.

Bucky welcome to the land of HOAs and old retired people with enough money to pretty much do what they want....I am older than most on here but some just won't admit that these motor vehicle laws are flawed in many ways. Pretty much nails it. In addition, there may be some political holier than thou attitude mixed in as well.

The ONLY reason I mentioned anything about sportsman racers is because it was brought up like a rub your nose in it deal. Get this: A state targets certain motorists who are bringing a great deal of revenue into the state. And they nail them for anything including inches over the stated law. Let's use 65' for example, as it can be related to 65 mph easily. Who gets a ticket for less than one mph over the speed limit? How about 5 mph? Even that is pretty rare. Yet they ticket for ANYTHING over the allowed overall length. Sure that makes sense. It did NOTHING to make the roads safer and its only intention was a money grab. It hurt specific businesses as well. If that isn't profiling, I don't know what is.

Is 80' well over the law? Of course. And there is a chance he will get a ticket or worse IF he gets pulled over. If we really want to make the roads safer, maybe we should pull EVERY exemption that motorhomes get. Now 70 year old retirees can have fun with a CDL test as well as physicals and the expense that comes with all of it. I'd say THAT would make a bigger impact on road safety than busting overlength vehicles.

Sounds like your don't give a rat's arse what anyone thinks unless they think like you...do what you want, where you want, just don't bch on here if you get caught.

You asked a question, you received lots of answers. NONE, ZERO, NADA, NOBODY said you would be legal. Yet you persist. At 80' you're NOT LEGAL in any State of the Union. Randy tried to give you a logical explanation and you blew him off. His post made absolute sense to me...just sayin...Dennis

Ummm...I don't recall ever being 80' nor asking anything about being 80'. Me thinks you are misplacing your anger.
Agreed, or perhaps happy hour started early for Dennis?:W Or he may not have even read the post(s):h

Bucky,
You know as well as I do that there are a number of NHRA "Sportsman" racers making or subsidizing their living off of their racing or the parts they produce and/or sell that are advertised on the sides of the T-home and trailer. We both also know the ins and outs of how to make your "Sportsman" racing tax deductible. Never tell the auditor you enjoy racing. If you want to run a large transporter then run legal or stop complaining when you get busted. We got nailed once for being 500#s overweight at the AZ scales leaving CA. Why? Because the boss got cheap on his weight permit and then added extra weight in the trailer. When you do these types of things you shut up and pay up or operate by the law. Especially when the state, FL, tells you up front what they have planned.

With a permit, you'll be just fine. The main thing to remember is not to drive too fast. Many RVers get in trouble by their excessive speed, which in turn makes it very dangerous for you when driving your rig / combination 80' footer. Be safe out there this Holiday weekend!

Bucky, I can't even figure out your point. If you don't like California don't come. But the laws we are talking about are fairly universal and many states (if not most) have the exact same restrictions as California. So please make sure you check all those states and avoid every one of them too.
