Self Installation of a 2014 CR-V Roadmaster Base Plate

Looking over the instructions on the Roadmaster EZ-4 for my 2014 CR-V I see a step where there is a part that needs to be cut away. How hard was that to remove and what tool did you use to remove it.

Did my 2012 CRV with Blue Ox plate. Took me approx. 3 hrs. Hardest part was removal of bumper without breaking clips if I could find them in the first place. I love doing these things myself as I know I will follow manufacturer's directions where as who knows when a "qualified" installer does it. More miss than hit IMHO.

I farmed it out. Tallahassee company, Capital Hitch is an authorized Blue Ox dealer, and they had it installed and wired in under five hours. That included the EvenBrake set up and pigtail connections with LED lights. I'd probably still be working on it.

I helped a buddy of mine install a blue ox base plate on his 2011 Honda CRV it took us about 7 hrs. and you must read the instructions as you are doing it. After that experience when it came to doing my Equinox I paid to have it done. Money well spent. If you do it yourself, when you wire the car for turn signals and brake lights make sure you put diodes in those lines.

I did my Honda 2014 cr-v baseplate installation the only thing i had to cut was a plastic shroud which you can cut with tin snips.
Go to etrailer.com . They have a video on doing the Honda 2014 cr-v roadmaster baseplate installation step by step (vary good video) just follow the steps. Just be careful the Honda plastic bumper facia is hard to come off and is installed with a lot of plastic tabs that will brake off vary easy. Good luck and take a look at the vedeo you will be glad you did.

I used the Demco baseplate on our 2003 CRV and there was no cutting or drilling.

I did my 09 in a few hours. Demco did not need any cutting but you needed to modify the trans cooler line and drill two holes. About three hours.

I would do it again.

The 2014 looks a little easier than my 2011 but essentially it can be cut with a sawz-all. I found a cutoff wheel easier but it took some time. I think you also will need some cobalt bits to drill through the frame and a good drill. Putting a base plate on a CRV is no easy task. Sure Blue OX says it can be done in 3 hours - if you do it every day. It took me 8 and most shops would agree they estimate about 8 hours of labor. I did it myself, but if I ever have to again I will pay a shop. It's a lot of hassle. Also if you have to move the power steering cooling line ( I did on my 2011) be careful. I nicked the line and had to replace it. Left my CRV sitting for 2 days waiting on the part.
