Slide Topper - Help

Accidently got to close in my RV carport, and snagged the slide topper on carport.

Along with rubbing the fabric, I snagged and bent the pictured lever:

It appears the lever is held in with one screw, so I can remove and fine a replacement, I ASSUME.

Does anyone know what that lever/arm does in respect to the slide topper?

If I remove and run the slide out, will it have an effect on the proper use of the topper?

Thanks in advance, for any insight!

Thanks,

Interesting to see this two years after I had what was a confounding issue. On an extended out of state trip my short bedroom slide would only push out halfway. I could not see anything unusual and the electrics appeared to be engaging properly as well. On top of that I had zinged and slightly bent my generator exhaust pipe on a concrete median on the Cross Bronx Expressway, so I was not the proverbial happy camper. Come to find out, when I had made contact with the anti-billow arm on a street sign next to my house coming home after my last trip, it had rotated such that it prevented the full rotation of the awning roller when the slide was actuated. Did not break anything but it was something I could not figure out without professional advice and assistance. Always something to learn.

The lever is actually called an "anti-billow device". It's purpose is to keep the slide fabric from catching the wind when driving and unrolling from the roller bar. If the fabric starts to unroll, the lever hits the stop on the side of the RV, preventing further unrolling.

From your picture, it doesn't look to me like the lever is bent. It just pulled out the screws (there are two screws). If the existing screw holes are no longer able to hold the screws securely, drill new screw holes through both the lever and the roller cap so that the lever is mounted in the same position. The lever needs to be positioned so that it misses the stop as the slide is extended, but hits the stop when the fabric starts to unroll when the slide is all the way in.

Here are a couple of pictures I took when I replaced the fabric on our slide.

Removing the anti-billow device.
