Have you verified the two ground connections at the step?
Did you locate the fuses at or near the battery control center?

How are you checking for Power? Test light or Multimeter?
RED should have 12 volts
Yellow 12 volts when engine running
White 12 volts when switch is on
Brown is a ground from door magnetic switch

Motor CANNOT cause a Power problem.
Last, the Odds of losing 12 volts on all 3 (Red/yellow/White) at the same time is statically extreme. They each have their own fuse supply(3 fuses). Doug

When you find the 20 amp fuse. Install a Auto Reset 20 amp 12 volt circuit breaker. Then you do not have to worry about a fuse blowing, unless you have a direct short, which will cause the CB to not reset. Doug

This post was very helpful for me.

On a trip to Florida my stairs became erratic, opening and closing as we drove. I pulled the plug and wire tied the stairs up. I replaced the motor once I got to my destination. We stayed for 6 weeks assuming everything was cool, it wasn’t. As we rolled down the road the same thing happened. I pulled the plug and wire tied the stairs again, the motor was hot.
Someone pointed out that it maybe the magnetic sensor.

My apologies for not adding your quote to this post.

Just curious. I TOLD everyone how to do an easy test for the fuse. Takes 30 seconds. Did you do that? Doug

Fuses are commonly located adjacent to the battery disconnects. Operating the battery disconnect by helper while you listen for disconnect operation helps in locating it.
Did you test the fuses or just look at them?

Fuses in bathroom may not be proper fuse block
All motor homes have at least 2 fuse blocks
some 3 or more (mine had 4)

Step fuses on my Gasser were in the "Intellect Battery Control Center" box.
Home was where I park it. but alas the.
2005 Damon Intruder 377 Alas declared a total loss
after a semi "nicked" it. Still have the radios

The simplest check is also easy. Under the step is an amber light. WATCH the light and have someone OPEN and CLOSE the door with engine running. IF the light goes ON and OFF with the opening and closing, the wiring is OK and the probable failure is the step motor. SAME procedure with engine running and opening and closing the door. Tap(bang) on the step motor with a hammer. IF the step then functions the motor had a dead spot in the armature and needs replaced. It will probably work after you do this but WILL fail again. Doug

I guess my first question is, does the motor have power? Can you hear it try and run when you open or close the door?

If the motor has power and tries to operate, you might what to check this. Could the steps be binding putting pressure on the system which will shut if off. The pivot points on the steps may be dirt and need lube of some type. Have you gotten underneath and looked to see if the motor assembly was still attached to the frame. The reason I asked that was last year my steps stopped working but the motor was running. I looked underneath and the four screws holding the motor assembly had become loose and sheared off.

Good Luck
