Stinky Question

We have a Holiday Rambler Vacationer that we bought last year. Although we have had other issues with the rig, the most recent is a smell when standing outside on the passenger side at both the front of the rig and near the rear duallies. Any ideas and advise is appreciated and welcomed!

I like Doug's Pine-Sol idea. I think I'm getting some gray tank odor from my kitchen gray tank so I'm gonna pour a pint in and go from there.

Your holding tanks are in the basement, along with the fresh water tank. Find your black/gray water drain line, and look behind them. This is where your holding tanks more than likely are. Use the Pine sol like Doug suggested, and you may be able to narrow down the possible problems. The drain line from the kitchen sink can take a beating when traveling, and break, or split.

Thanks all, I checked the battery bay and although they do smell somewhat, I don't think it is the sewer smell that we are getting. I have been up underneath the rig and can't locate the actual grey and black water tanks, where are they normally located on a Class A?

It will give off a sulfur smell like rotten eggs, and/or sewer smell.
Been there done that! It would smell when I was 'outside' the RV periodic whiffs of it.

I thought it was the CG well water or that someone was dumping without a donut or connector on.That is what it smelled like.

Well.....it turned out that the my coach battery was boiling!!!
Every time the converter came on it was boiling the battery.

Check your battery and be 'very' careful when you do when opening the bay for it. Stand back and don't touch anything. These things can explode.

Put a pint of pine sol in the black tank. Then see if you smell Pine sol outside. If NOT, then repeat with the Gray tank. This will determine if you have a tank leak or venting problem. usually, if you flush the Black tank and DO use chemical in the tank, you should NOT get any Black tank odor, just the smell of the chemical. GRAY tank odors are far worse than Black tank odors and most people do not think of the Gray tank causing the odor. If you can open the toilet valve with no water on and you do NOT get a foul odor, then the Gray tank is suspect. Also, a Washer/Dryer ABS drain line that the water has siphoned out of the P trap will cause Gray tank odors also. Doug

BTW, The Cyclone type vents people install just HIDE a problem. If you have to use those to get rid of odor, you need to find and fix the cause of the odor.

A leak in a drain line either grey or black, allowing fluid to lay on top of waste tanks. Don't ask how I would possibly think about that being a solution, it's a Tiffin thing.
