Towed and Odometer

Just a quick question that popped into my head. If you have a towed that is pulled with all 4 wheels on the ground, does the odometer keep moving? If so, just wondered how that works for resale/trade since it will have a bunch more miles that weren't actually "driven".

That's too funny. Burned 6 2/3 gallons doing nothing. That would have been at least 70 miles extra in your coach.

Our '07 Honda and now the '13 do not accumulate mileage. Once, I left the engine on in the '07 from Southern California to Phoenix.... car in neutral, added 400 miles and got over 60 mpg! Never did that again!

Not even our dealer could answer that question about our dingy/toad/towed. We went to a small hill, shut off the engine, put it in neutral and coasted down the hill. No mileage was accumulated. Try it on your own dingy and you will know for sure.

99% won't. You have to turn the key on to allow steering wheel movement and remove or disable the ignition fuse which will cause the mileage not to register.

Digital odometers normally will not gain mileage without the drive train processor powered up. The older mechanical odometer might.

Both my Honda towed vehicles, 1998 Accord and 2005 CRV, did not gain mileage. Also both were digital odometers.

Only a few vehicles (mostly when the key must be left in) have this issue...

On my Saturn or HHR the odometer does not register mileage when towed.
