Truck Conversions...

Hey Moderators, how about adding a section for truck conversions! Coaches like mine are not C's or super C's but class 8 truck conversions....it's bad enough we can't get into some of the class A only campgrounds but we don't even get our own forum?

These coaches are 250K-500K and up and are growing in popularity........how bout' it.

This is a great idea.....we do have Truck Conversion.Net but a sub forum here would be good.

JTHarley - don't forget to add NRC to the list of Truck Conversions - we just got ours and would be happy to join any TC forum we could find!

It would be great to have another forum category. I find myself on both the A and the C forums because of commonality with both groups. Mechanically these larger rigs have suspension, braking, power plants, wheels and tires more similar to Class A, as such spend most my time over there.

BTW JTHarley and AZ99, our rig is a M2 (smaller than JT 's rig) and always handled well but would bounce (oscillate) when hitting bridge approaches at high speed several cycles before damping out. Replaced OEM shocks on the front with a set of Koni's. The OEM shocks only had about 8500 miles but what an improvement....

Very true.
The Kodiak 5500 chassis brought this forum alive. With 1,000's of posts just about all the suspension, shock and spring problems.:)

I think I've figured out why it is difficult to have a forum for truck conversions.........they just don't have alot of problems to discuss on a forum. These coaches (most of them) are built like tanks!!! After owning 5 previous coaches, 2 of them being class A diesels, one super C and one B+ I can honestly say that I'm just not having any issues that warrant asking others for help or opinions.

When you take a million mile truck chassis designed for over the road use and turn it into a motorhome it is solid and the nice thing is Dynamax, Showhauler and other truck conversion companies build these things to last forever.

The first time I went there I simply sent them a picture of my coach and they said "of course" you can come. I think the terminology is key in letting them know you have a truck conversion and not a super C. They will ask how old it is like most class A resorts and if it is within the 10 year window it is fine. I just booked 2 weeks there starting March 9th. I'm on the main lake facing the club house.....I think it is site 169.

On a positive note, the Signature Resorts in Naples ALLOW truck conversions in their class A only resorts.
Do you need to talk to anyone special ? What do you say you have? I may stop there in March. Thanx

Now I am going to have to go out and look at the weight sticker on the M2. 🙂 I think it is 33,000.

I think the M1 is a class 7 and the M2 is a heavy duty chassis and a class 8....I could be wrong.

I'm hoping that as the market grows for truck conversions....and it is....that these resorts will realize they are every bit as nice as MOST of the class A coaches that go to the resorts. I never understood why this problem exists. My coach MSRP is north of $500K yet the guy next to me in his 8 year old gasser that is maybe $50-60K is allowed and I am not.

I do enjoy occasionally going to a real full service resort such as the class A only are..not all the time...but every now and then on a trip we want to splurge. When we go to Florida we stay mainly at campgrounds that accept just about any motorhomes and fifth wheels but when we go to Naples each year we enjoy the signature resort to spoil ourselves for a couple of weeks.

I've seen many of the "white box" conversions there each year. Haulmark's, Renegades, showhaulers ect.....Last year, we had what looked like a home made big white box truck parked right next to a prevost........Can't we all just get along....LOL

How about the big white box trucks? Renegade, Haulmark, Showhauler etc. They are expensive and luxurious Class 8/Super C units also. I really doubt that these snotty Class A only resorts would like a few of those in regardless of how they were classified. 🙂

Isn't the Jayco Embark on the M2 chassis a Class 7 truck?

For the asking price of a class 8 conversion, they should be on par with class As for "motorcoach resorts".

I think I read somewhere that some manufacturers are calling them Class A's on the title on purpose, so it allows them to go into Class A only campgrounds.

Maybe just for laughs I'll test that theory when we leave for Florida this year.......might get a chuckle out of it.
