I have been driving a 38' DP and using mostly the RV lanes for fuel. I am purchasing a 42' DP and I think it may be time to suck it up and start using the truck lanes. What is the proper procedure for getting fuel in those lanes? I haven't seen any "pay at the pump" islands in the truck lanes.

Thanks.

VA has a similar program but it's rather limited and they don't make the process nearly as easy as in AZ.

Hey MM: You look so light today. Did you go on j-Half's diet, too? (I've lost 31 pounds so far). LOL

Never heard of doing that. Is it much cheaper?

I also have never heard of 'light diesel'..... There is only one pump for diesel. I need Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel at 15ppm.

The clerk will ask for a truck number and I say we're a private vehicle. They never has for light or heavy.

If they did, I would say I'm heavier than I would like to be but if you think I'm light, I won't argue. LOL!

MM.

Anyone who has spent anytime in Arizona will know what I am talking about.

Diesel fuel that is used in large trucks subject to the tax is called heavy diesel and the diesel for light duty private trucks such as pick ups and motor homes is called light diesel.

Yes it is all the same fuel but their are separate pumps. Heavy diesel pumps which are programmed for the extra 8 cent tax. Light diesel pumps for pickups and motor homes that are not programmed for the extra 8 cent tax.

If you buy your fuel at the truck stop pumps you will be charged the 8 cent tax and as I indicated you can request a refund if you prove what you put the "heavy diesel" in. But you pay the 8 cent tax and extra effort is required to get the money back.

Light diesel is 8 cents cheaper than heavy diesel.

Shoot for morning, mid-day or late evening fuel up times. Seems like least traffic @ the pumps.

I never pull up when done. I roll in and rarely wait as there is usually one open. I run in and leave a card, fuel, and go back in to sign and go. Since I am less then 100 gallons, it does not take long. You want to be outside listening for the fuel to come up into the filler tube on the big nozzles as the fuel will shoot 5 feet out and some will not auto stop right away. Stop it and top it off when it gets close manually. No mess, no waste.

I have seen truckers take a TON of time at the pumps. I would not worry about taking too much time.

I would be very cautious about letting anyone out during the stops. It is a very bustling area with trucks in and out and I certainly would not let my wife stroll into some truck stops. They can be unsavory at times. Know your surroundings.

I prefer the truck stops over a regular quickie mart gas station. And you can usually top the DEF off from the pump a lot cheaper than the boxed DEF.

If you have an on-line account set up, go to TCH.com and click on eManager login. Your control number should show in the card management section.

If you don't have an on-line account yet, use your card info to create one.

If all else fails, call the toll free number (855) 478-7587.

I am usually traveling solo = except for dog. I pull in truck lane next to pump, go in give them my CC, go out fuel up, move forward to yellow line and go in and pay and get my CC back.

Never had a problem. Truckers are actually interested in RV mileage and diesel size. Just say ho to them.

Ditto! I have a Pilot/FlyingJ card but since they've merged I've never used it. They are very proud of their fuel. I use Gas Buddy religiously. But with a 42ft. motorhome and a toad, I love the truck stops.
