tt destroyed by tornado, thinking about a winnebago 31c

Our brand new tt was destroyed by a tornado last month. We have been contemplating upgrading to a class c. We do about 5-10 thousand miles of camping a year and think it might be good on the family to get a c as opposed to packing them in the suburban. I am ready to pull the plug on a winnebago 2004 minnie 31c. It looks great and appears the owner was meticulous with maint. Does anyone have any thoughts good or bad about the minnie. I have been reading past posts. Thanks any input is appreciated.

We have just driven 9000 miles across USA /
Canada and down to Mexico,we love the Minnie
And she never let us down and held up well
with a two and five year old jumping all over her
for six months..I would buy another in a heartbeat!

I would stay away from the class c ,I have a 2002 29' GS WATER LEAKS ROTTED FLOORS DELAMENATION . Maybe other brands are better ??? Larry

We love our 2009 Winnebago 31C. The floor plan works great for us and the storage is wonderful! We do bottom out going in and out of some parking lots and that is my only complaint. We have put over 30K miles on her and are planning on taking her just about across the county this summer.

Thanks everyone, we verbally committed to buying it. The seller took his family on vacation for the holidays, so when they get back we will be the new owners. Something interesting is that the previous owners replaced the carpeting with real hardwood. neat but I was a little concerned about weight. I also did the check for leaks and found none. I have owned three tts so i feel pretty good about checking for leaks. Thanks everyone

I have a 2007 Winnebago Outlook 31C. (Was called the Minnie in years past.) I will not part with it.

The convenience of having a bathroom/kitchen available while driving down the road is incomparable.

We just got a 29T WB Access, 2007 and have used about three times so far. We like it. We are adding bilsteins,rear trac bar, and reflex steering stabilizer to help driving on highway. We have added two flat screens and like the layout so far. It has about 80 cf storage, mostly in rear. We had TTs till recently, hope you like it.

First, sorry to hear about the tornado loss. Hopefully the TT was the worst of the damage for you.

And second, I just wanted to add a "go for it" 🙂 We went from a TT to a Winnie 31C floorplan last spring and couldn't be happier with our decision. Ours is 2008 and was a previous rental (the Chalet name) and is equivalent to the Access...but pretty much the same as the Minnie Winnie you're looking at. So far it has been a great family layout for us.

One thing we still can't get over is the apples and oranges quality difference between our TT and the Winnie. Just a lot sturdier materials and construction. Every time I open a cabinet or drawer I'm still amazed. One of the first things we did was remove the tube TV and put in an LCD. That puppy was not quick to get out of there, so strongly engineered to keep that heavy thing in place!

Thanks for the info everyone. The price for the one we are looking at is about the same as a new tt. I have always wanted a class c it's just a matter of pulling the plug and doing it. Thanks again everyone.

We have a 2005 Winnebago-Itasca 31C and love her. Also been well maintained. We like the outside storage with large doors instead of those little ones that nothing fits through. Long wheel base rides very well and she tracks good. She came with supplemental air bags which we run in the 70 pound range for most trips. Need to keep tire pressures in the 77 - 80 lb. range and balanced side to side or she wonders badly though. Mileage for the last couple of years trips is in the 7.8 to 8.1 range. Not to bad considering we tow a trailer with Harleys.

Welcome to the forums zete, we started with a 2004 32g Minnie last summer and have had very good luck so far. All it needed was tires and a front end align, 23k miles. The long wheelbase makes for a really good ride, hardly have any push or pull on the freeways from trucks or windy conditions. Go for it and happy camping

Just pulled up the brochure. Winnebago has the advantage of a fiberglass roof, but additionally, I think that 31C is Pick of the Litter in '04 Minnie Winnies:

1. Long enough wheelbase to shift enough weight to the front axle (and not overload the rear axle) which will also aid good tracking on the road.

2. Generous outside storage.

sorry to hear about your tt! we have a winnebago minnie winnie 30v. love it! have had no issues. winnebago is a proven product and the line will be around for some time to come. floor plan work for you? that would be a major consideration. we were showing our winnie today to a couple with a 38' fiver wanting to downsize and wondered about ours. as a retired couple w/o small children, we really enjoy our front entertainment center--something also attractive to the other couple today as well. we have a jack knife sofa and can put the table down for more bed space if needed, so this works well for us. easy set up--stay--fully contained; easy take down and go. perfect!

Thanks jd, we have had three tt and have been camping for years. This unit looks great and the seller seemed meticulous. Growing up we had a class c and it would be awesome to give the daughter and wife that same kind of expericence. Plus it would be nice to give them a little more room going down the road. We had my older daughter a friend and my little one plus the wife in the suburban for a nine week 10000 mile trip. It was great but it would have been nice to have the space. Thanks for the pointers.

Winnebago is one of the better brands. Still:

Check Tire Pressures
Then Drive It
Stop at a Truck Scale and Weigh It
Have it Pressure Tested for Leaks

All is for naught if Mrs. doesn't like the Floor Plan.
