Two questions about a Motor Coach we are looking at

We are looking at a 2007 Fleetwood Discovery 39V coach, which as the full drivers side side. I have two questions to ask. During the inspection I noticed a crack in the shower, not in the bottom but running about 20 inches on the back as you look in. I questioned the owner who said it was like that when he purchased it, it was sealed by a professional and never has had a problem. He said the previous owner said he replaced it onced after buying but due to flex it cracked again...whats your thoughts on this, what would it cost to replace again. My second question is this unit has been used a lot for tailgating at games... the 7.5 gen has 3500 hrs on it.. what's the life on a generator...I've never seen that many hours on a unit. We love the floor plan and the owner is asking $87,000.00 for the unit. The coach as 48,000 miles.

You guys are the best. Thanks for all the information. We will continue to look and ask questions as you pointed out. I will be retiring in Sept. and the wife and I want to go on the road... so it important to us to get this coach thing right the first time. Again thanks and any suggestions you might have in the $80,000 cash price range would be appreciated.

Replacing it is no problem. (the shower) I would want to know why it cracked twice , may be a floor or wall structural issue.

I'd have the Onan service done just for peace of mind. Have talked to people with 11000 hrs on them and no problems. Ours only has 250 hrs.As for the crack, the shower is just an insert, you can replace it. Don't guess one way or other if there is a bigger problem.

My 7.5 diesel gen has 3000+ hours on it and they say it isn't even broke in yet. I service it once a year when they do the DP.

You are going to be the third owner and may well be the one who pays for the previous wear and use.If the shower has cracked and been replaced then cracked again certainly means there is a serious problem somewhere that has not been resolved and you now will own it.Sounds like low mileage high use unit including bathrooms, furniture, generator, rugs etc.

I agree with Trikepilot.... as long as the service records can be produced, I wouldn't worry about it. I've heard on this site (RV.net) that Onan's can go 20,000 hrs. before a major repair service.

I run our Onan 10K diesel almost monthly for exercise and in the summer while going down the road for roof air. We have just over 500 hrs. on it now in 7 years.

About the crack, I would check to see how much it would cost to replace and knock it off the price as I would want a new shower stall.

I have a genset that runs 9 hours a day, 5 days a week, and is going on its 6th year of service. It is an Onan 10K diesel. The hour meter actually quit working. You can hear it click once a second but the numbers no longer scroll. This unit gets new oil, filters, and fluid every 4 months. IMHO it is not the hours you should be worried about it is the service records. If there are good service records I would not worry about the hours.

I asked a Cummins/onan service repair shop how many hours was a lot...he answered by saying at a thousand hours they suggest a full service, belts, oil, filters, coolant and thermostat. He never went so far as to say how many hours was too much but he offered his personal observation that gens on slides get serviced and gens bolted in rarely do, because of high labor costs. I have never seen a gen with that many hours and would want to see the service records for it (the gen). I think I would go to a onan dealer and ask about hours and also the price of a new one, it might make a difference in your offer to the seller.

My unit is like the one you described and our shower never cracked. For the money it's a decent coach.

We have a 2008 Providence the shower is fine, never heard of a shower cracking. The asking price is $3,000 below NADA low retail so price seems ok but might want to check the vin for possible accidents.
Good luck we love our home.
