Used Country Coach Hesitancy?

I really like the quality of the Country Coach brand! The 05 with the opposing slides really fits our needs for sleeping space and the 36 footer fits neatly into our driveway, not to mention many campsites. My DW is leery about the possibility of a purchase because the company in Oregon went out of business some years ago. Are there any issues getting service and/or parts from this brand? Would anyone have any misgivings about pulling the trigger on a Country Coach DP?

We have an older Monaco, and the chassis is a Ford chassis. Ford can supply parts if needed for the chassis, and as far as the furnace, water heater, stove, frig, micro, etc. They are all made by someone else anyway as all coaches use only a few brands. We can buy many of the maintenence related items for the chassis and house at any auto supply store, walmart or online. I sure wouldn't hesitate if it's a great coach that you like.

Paint checking is not just an issue with CC. Other brands have the same problem and will continue to have the problem when using dark pigmented paints

X2 looked at a couple of Monaco's that had it.

When I first responded to this post I owned a 5th wheel, but as fate would have it, we just purchased another Country Coach. We will be full timing touring the country.

" Aren't they related more to Allison Transmission, Cummins/Cat or Dynomax rather than specifically Country Coach issues?"

Thw Allison trans is pretty much bullet proof and most problems are related to wiring. Cat and Cummins are their own animal and have proven to be equally reliable. I have had both and I feel that the Cummins is cheaper to maintain and I think that Cummins is also quieter mechanically.

The DynoMax chassis was built in the CC factory so you could probably say the chassis is a CC item. Here again, you don't normally have issues with the chassis. The front and rear clips are made by other companies and were purchased by CC

Yes and those you specified are most likely chassis items.
Even when you think engine, it's sometimes chassis. Exp: The fluid tube on my CAT engine is provided by Spartan and even the starter isn't supplied with the engine, as far as I know. Probably because it requires a 12v product and most Industrial engines, like CAT are 24v and even though the starter is a CAT product, made by Delco Remy.
Most likely the fluid tube for the tranny is a Spartan item, as well, but haven't really had to look into it.

Even if the company was still in business the coach would be out of warranty and at ten years old most RV companies wouldn't have the caps regardless. Styles have changed.

Few caps are replaced anyway, as most Fiberglas damage is just repaired.
The only real thing, I like about my present coach, engine and chassis, still being in business, is for the tech support I get, when required, along with any drawings and diagrams that they might have available.

Agree on most fiberglass repairs. It was strange to see all those fiberglass molds stacked in the yard. Since many CC's had fiberglass storage compartment doors, I suspect those molds might be more useful. I did talk to a tech who worked in the fiberglass shop and he said they often are making replacement panels, etc. for coaches in for repairs.

As far as tech support, there are several good options. All CC's came with a plastic container with all the wiring, plumbing, pneumatic, etc. schematics and a host of other tech stuff about the coach. Only useful, of course, if every owner of a coach kept them. Another source are several CC employees who are still working for the new company (Greg Bootes for example) who provide phone support and will send (for a fee) brochures, diagrams, etc. The best support for many of us with CC's are Kevin Waite and Butch Williams. They were long time CC builders and techs and offer technical support via phone, text or email for an annual fee. You can contact them any time and they will talk you through diagnosis and repair. Kevin is also an excellent resource for hard to find parts.

I've googled this term and found nothing that pertains to RVs. In other equipment PTO is power take off, for running other machinery. What is a PTO in motorhome terms? And wet?

The PTO system drives the HYD fan and steering oil and if the dry splines go bad it can take out the transmission and maybe the radiator. If a person wants to keep the dry system needs to be greased once a year, so I had the wet PTO installed. Total cost around $895.00, if it goes out the bill can run close to $25k

The issue with getting parts is a non issue. That thought never even crossed my mind when I purchased mine just a couple years ago.
