VOLTS AND AMPS

Hi; we're going on our first overnight camping trip tonight in our newly purchased (but used) motor home. The campground has 30 amp and 50 amp spaces. I'm trying to find out whether I can plug in my 120-volt coffee pot and am unable to find an amp to volt conversion anywhere. Anyone know? I've read posts on here stating you can't use a coffee pot, except for the stove top ones. Thank you.

Lights , vent fans, water pump, heater thermostat controls, heater blower, fridge controls... Are 12v
Your duplex outlets are 120v and work if your are plugged into shore power or if your generator is running

Look at your shore cord
If it has (3) blades/prongs, it is 30 amp RV service
If it has (4) blades it is 50 amp service
You plug into the one it fits

30 amp , Max total power 3600 Watts
That's means you do not run a/c , hair dryer, coffee pot at the same time
Use only one large big draw item at a time
Make coffee, then use the MW or toaster
Turn off the a/c when you need the mw or hair dryer

Out side of that is just a matter of power management

If you have 50 amp RV , and are plugged into a 50 amp service, you can usually use any combination of of appliances and not worry about it
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

You can use any coffee pot or appliance you like when plugged into 30 amp or 50 amp power.

Is the RV 50 amp or 30 amp? Get a site that matches your RV.

If you have 30 amp service you cannot run the A/C, microwave, coffee pot, electric W/H, hair drier at the same time. Two large items max.

volts X amps = watts

The coffee pot is intended to use 120 volts. Plugging it into 12 volts won't work.

30 amp shore power will give you about 3600 watts.
A 50 amp shore power will give you about 6000 watts on each leg for a totalof about 12000 watts.
A normal electric coffee pot is about 1200 watts.

You need to work with WATTS, instead of volts and amps.
Your voltage will always be fixed at 120 volts so it is a simple formula to calculate what you will need.
Power(WATTS) = Volts(120) x Amps
Let's assume that your coffee maker uses 1200 watts, that would mean that 1200 watts = 120 volts X 10 Amps

All appliances are marked with the power (WATTS) that they use and if you use the constant 120 volts you can always tell how many amps your appliance will use. Adding all of the Amps up you can tell if you need a 30 or a 50 amp outlet.

Carl, read articles on RV electrical systems. It's not complicated and then you'll be set for adventure!

CarlKat,

Welcome to the forums.

Your Triple E will plug into shore power and then you will be able to use your coffee pot.

If you wish to use the pot when trundling down the highway the options would be to run a generator (if so equipped) or add an inverter (which would draw power from the "house" batteries).

Our 96 Southwind has 30 AMP service. When plugged into shore power I use the coffee maker with no problems.
Either I don't understand your question or, you're overthinking the situation.
When you are on shore power, all your 120 volt appliances will work. Maybe not all at the same time but, they will work.
Enjoy your first trip and use it as a learning experience. 🙂
