Water leak inside 91 Pace Arrow soaking carpet.

My 91 Pace Arrow on the P30 Chassis has developed a leak. The carpet in the hallway gets soaked, and I cannot find the source. I'm thinking possibly the toilet. The carpet between the bathroom wall and hall is not wet, but it is about 6'' away from the wall. I cannot check underneath, as the fuel tank blocks the area. To minimize the soakage, I only use the fresh water tank for water, and turn off the pump, and release pressure each time I need to use water, but it still stays wet.

I had a massive leak of the water valve on the toilet. I took it to Camping world and had them do it. It took less than an hour and cost a couple hundred bucks (243 including new toilet). I have replace toilets in the past. It is a huge PITA and no fun at all especially if you don't get a good seal and have to do it over. Let a pro do it. If it leaks they have to fix it.

Especially since I haven't dumped the tanks yet. 🙂

If you can't see the mounting bolts, they will be under a removable dress cover under the bowl. Look for a hose type large clamp around the center under the bowl or clips/clamps in the back of the column. Remove it and the cover should be removable. You probably have two bolts if it is Thetford or four bolts otherwise.

The water from the built up area under the leak can flow under the linoleum out to its end under the carpet and then surface there.

You just have to get down on your knees and be brave.... 🙂

Frankly, I despise this toilet. Yes, it's a Thetford. Seat is too small for me. I'd just rather replace it and be done with it, once I find the mounting bolts.

John you never said what toilet you have but assuming it is a Thetford you can get to the valve if you depress the foot pedal. The first time my valve leaked I replaced it with an O ring which lasted about 4 years then started leaking again. The second time the o ring did not fix it and I had to replace the whole valve. It was less that $50 if I remember correctly. The toilet is held on with 3 or 4 bolts and nuts at the base.

Hank, I think that is the problem. Found a leak behind the valve assy, but for the life of me, can't figure out how to get the toilet off the base so I can get to the valve. Planning on replacing the entire unit anyway. Found a toilet on Camping World that will do the trick, just getting the old one off is going to be the issue.

We have a 94 Fleetwood Bounder. The toilet sits up higher than the floor. The valve assembly leaked and ran out into the hall. May be your problem, the valve is at the right rear, behind the foot pedals. Tough to see but I could feel a drip back there when the system was pressurized.

Not easy to pull the toilet but a few O-rings from HD and it's been good for 3 years.

You might try looking up.

Roof Vent or A/C might be the problem.

Feel the ceiling for wet spots, water will run inside the ceiling till it finds a low spot.

Shower skylight might be letting water into the ceiling.

All good suggestions, but the place where it is leaking is in the hallway, dead center. The toilet is about 3' away from the wet spot, and there is a wall between the toilet and the hall. I'm thinking it may be the feed line to the toilet leaking. I wish Pace Arrow had a plumbing routing guide for the vehicle. If I can, I'll try to post pics of the area to give a better idea. Also, anyone have any experience changing out a toilet? Looking for replacing ours with one that will not cut off my family jewels when I sit on it. The seat is made for a child, I swear.

May be the water heater leaking. Mine caused a wet spot you described. A plastic fitting cracked, and that was enough.
PITA to R&R, but a cheap fix.

You can check the toilet by putting a paper towel under the foot pedal then hold the foot pedal down and see if the towel is wet. This would indicate the water valve is leaking and is easily replaced.

You might be able to get a better idea of where it is the wettest with a roll of paper towel and a piece of plywood. Put the towels down over the wet spot, and then cover the area with the plywood for a few seconds. When you lift the plywood, the water will have soaked up most where it is wettest.
