Just for grins and giggles, check you "city water hookup" for signs of leakage. We were having erratic operation of our water pump, and I noticed water was dripping from the city hookup. Turned out, the check valve had the "O" ring come off of the valve, and would seal intermittently. Some times, the pump would not turn on and no water flow, sometimes it would run and run with little flow, other times would be normal. Sometimes a short burst of the pump running would happen. We have a house water filter on the city hookup, so it kind of acted like an expansion chamber. Was very happy to find the check valve problem. Just changing the pump would not have been much of a problem, but it was not the problem.
