after a few years of planning and stalling, I finally replaced the 13 inch tube tv in the rv bedroom with a 23 inch Samsung that Costco has on sale right now for $250 plus tax. It is 1080p and has a really nice picture using the built in HD tuner and over the air signals. Wattage use is 42 watts during normal operation on movie mode. Dynamic picture mode bumps it up to about 56 watts. Standby usage is 1 watt. I just have to finish up the wiring mess, and figure out how to secure it while traveling

I also replaced the 25 inch tube tv up front with a 32 inch Samsung from Costco. Don't know the wattage specs on that yet. I have to figure out how to trim it out and how to secure that while traveling also.

Almost forgot...While at Costco I saw they had these blackout curtain panels for about $32. The were about a foot over 8 feet wide for both panels. They also claim to have energy savings and block out some sound. Basically they are like a fake suede material and it just happens to match the material I recoverd the sides of the window valences in. I went to the local rv place and got an 8 foot section of "T" track, drapery hooks and the little wheel things that slide on the track. It is the same thing that my front windshield drapes use.

I had to cut the track in three pieces to get it to conform to the roof of my rv but I managed to mount it on the ceiling behind the two front seats. I installed the drapery panels, attached a few pieces of velcro on the side, to the wall, attached a few pieces of velcro between the panels where they meet in the middle, and make a velcro hem at the bottom since they were a little long.

So now I have it where I can pull the curtains and help retain some heat, and block out light if I want. I have the Reflectix material cut out for each window so I can really make it dark in there and maintain heat in cold weather.

I mounted the Voltminder voltage gauge, which was recommended to me here, and installed a on/off/on switch next to it on the dash. I have one leg which is the engine battery and the other leg which is the house batteries. This enables me to have one gauge and monitor both batteries with a flip of the switch or turn the gauge off completely.

I did buy two gauges but I wanted the other one in the bedroom.

Having finished with the mechanicals and outside polishing, etc., I vacuumed and cleaned the inside, washed and dried the bedding and packed some of the food for the 1,500 mile trip from home in Dixon, California to the FMC Motor Coach Rally that will start on Wednessday of next week in Minden, Nebraska.

I can't actually leave until early Sunday morning as we have a family gathering over on the coast on Saturday. That means I will have to do the drive in three days. I will spend Sunday eventing in Salt Lake City, Monday night in Cheyenne, Wyoming where I meet up with six other coaches and then on Tuesday caravan the rest of the way to Minden.

Tires went on as planned on 6/9. Today (6/10) while looking for a towbar, I snagged a self aiming satellite dish for twenty dollars. I'll be figuring out how to install that when I locate the rest of the stuff that is supposed to go with it. :B

Well, since I just got my 07 Safari Simba DP a couple of weeks ago, there's been some things that I've wanted to do.....so today I started on them. I re-routed the BBQ propane pipe closer to the door. Also moved the central vac canister so I can store the BBQ in that compartment. Made some brackets that the BBQ fits in so it won't move around. Also fixed the shower door rollers, installed the receiver portion of my SMI stay n play tow brake, hard wired it, so won't have to plug into the cigrette lighter. That was enough for today.

see my post 'praise when deserved'. This was done Monday & Tuesday. Today I went out and watched the sat dish unfold itself, go up, search, and find the satellite. How can it do that? I love technology, but don't believe in magic. :?

I just replaced my old tv's with new Flat screens and set up my new portable satellite dish so everything is working before our month-long road trip later this month. Still need to flush the fresh water tanks and then start packing.

I removed the 13 inch tube tv from the bedroom in anticipation of replacing with an lcd.

Also rewired the porch light switch. The switch would turn on the porch light and the little bulb light that lit up the stairs. I wanted to be able to operate the porch light independently of the inside stair light.

I went to Walmart, got another switch, a marine led stair light and another small led light in the same section. They were both white but I painted the covers black. The stair light is just about the same size as the original bulb light, fits in the same space but draws much less power.

The reason I added an additional led light was that I have it shining light on the door handle and lock assembly from the inside. It is very confusing to move the handle up, the lock on the top down and the bottom lock up in a normal situation when having to open the door in the dark. If there is an emergency then it is nice that I can just leave the low power draw led's on all night and they essentially light up the exit if my son has to get out the front or we have to get out the front.

Ive had a few of those days in my life. Sounds like you got it all sorted out. Sometimes a little "swearing" makes you feel just a little better. Lets it out so to speak ๐Ÿ˜‰
wolfman01 wrote:
Today, I did a stupid thing, and forgot to retract the TV antenna before moving the coach. Predictably, I broke it on a tree branch while still in my own driveway. Swearing ensued, and all was wasted as the tire guy apparently thought that I was going to call him a day before bringing the coach down, while I thought we were set for today. So, it was broken for no reason whatsoever. More swearing ensued.

Shopping for a base plate for my truck netted me to an RV place in Ft. Worth. I ordered the base plate, bought another antenna, and stopped by another RV place a few blocks up the road for a new windshield washer bottle. I got home to find that my replacement headlight had arrived as well.

Starting at 1800 this evening, I replaced the broken antenna with an amplified one, installed the new headlight, and replaced the broken windshield washer reservoir. The front TV now receives most of the DFW area channels, the rear one still does not get anything, so I need to do more troubleshooting on that one.

Oh yes, I almost forgot. I cleaned out the throttle body in the hopes that this will fix an annoying backfiring problem.
Tires go on tomorrow.
