Normally follow the Golden Rule (grade school) when camping
and 99% of the time I'm covered... this one has me flummoxed..

I own a perfect self contained electric smoker... (soaked chips
of Hickory/Apple/Mesquite etc.).... was wondering if it would be
inappropriate to take with me to the next State Park camp outing
and smoke up some tri-tip / shoulder / bird etc. . Would hate to
p.o. the neighbors.... I only ask as last week one of the neighbor
couples sat outside their rig and both smoked slow burn big ol'
fat cigar turds...and we were downrange. Dang things lasted over
an hour then lingered. I've smelled better feces. Hence ,
rethinking the smoker. any thoughts ?

Smoke time varies with load/species/cut ... could run up to 6-8
hours.

Well now, if you're not guilty of anything I refered to, then you have no reason to respond, I guess. YOu stand for and on whatever you'd like. I was and am still, only pointing out that the attitude in this thread was less than stellar. Any way you want to look at is your perogitive. In other words, no skin off my nose buddy.

Now, y'all can understand why I don't come in here too much.

Well BBT, I'll stand by this, childish or not in your mind.

Wow, do you guys see what you're writing and the attitude that some of us are having, and projecting onto others? Are we all on this forum for a common reason? Do we all have a passion for what we do?

Then start acting like it, have some compassion, think about what your fingers do, before they do it.

I'm not a mamby pamby kind of guy, I'll get in your face in a second, and I"m not scared of anybody, but y'all go back and read what you've put here. The OP waws asking for some serious advice, from a group of people that they thought would be unbiased and give some sound ADULT advice. Some of you sound like 6 year olds, that got thier favorite ball taken away by a bigger kid.

I'm also a member of another forum for the other hobbie I do. We talk a bit of trash, but not really like this. One of our members found out his 10 or 11 year old daughter has cancer, we pulled together, and in a week, we've raised over $11,000 from items we donated for online forum auction (and the members are not very well to do either, so don't go there)

Can we pull that off here on this forum? From the time I've spent here, I don't think so, think about that for a minute.

OK, flame on, I got my fire suit on.

I have absolutely no problem with an aroma, not a billowing smoke. What I do have a problem with is some folks in this thread who obviously have no concern for their neighbors. they consider it to be their right to do whatever they wish with no concern for anybody else.

Fortunately most people fall between the two extremes, with one being "I don't want smoke, kids, pets, scooters, tobacco, alcohol" etc, and the other being "I'm here til Sunday night and I'm going to do what ever I darn well please".
Unless you're going to a CG that restricts certain things, I think the nature of camping in CGs is that you're going to encounter campfires, outdoor cooking, kids, pets, some drinking (not necessarily out of control), tobacco, and noise. The noise of people socializing, kids playing, music, etc. if the activities aren't illegal or prohibited by the CG, and quiet hours are being observed, I don't think I have the right to expect others to change their behaviors based on my health needs or personal dislikes. If I could not live with normal CG atmosphere I would either look for a restrictive CG and choose my spot accordingly, buy a piece of land where I won't come in contact with the public, or not go camping.

whole nuther' topic completely. My family likes the way my smoke

I always wondered how wet wood chips burn and produce smoke :h Totally silly. But I digress. I bring my Weber bullet camping often and smoke ribs or chicken. No different from a camp fire. Once the smoke wood is consumed, there is not a whole lot of smoke.

and yes there are other sites but why should I have to move if I was there first. they could do as motels/restaurants/etc. did , have non-smoking/fire areas. along with no rug rats, no generators, etc.

If I am camping and thers a fire ring, Why shouldnt I be allowed to have a fire to cook my food? Doesnt matter if you were there before me!!
And they could regulate and designate no smoking,no children, no generators, They dont call it a campground though,, They call that Hell!!
If you want that then open your eyes,, if theres kids fires and people enjoying the great outdoors,, LEAVE!!! Go to a Motel!! Find a different hobby or past time, its not worth the stress trying to change the world.

Even in the over regulated state of California I am allowed to enjoy Family camping in the great out doors.

As I pointed out earlier, I dont like cigarette smoke, and drunk obnoxious people, but if your in your own area and not bothering any one else drinking a suit case of beer and smoking thirty cigs a day, have at it!!!

Bumpy,,, your not the kind of guy that yells at kids for walking on your lawn are you???
"Hey Kids!!! GET OFF MY LAWN"!!
Take a deep breath, count to fifty five,,,,Relax!!! This like all things will surely pass!!

the last I checked, the handicap spots had all to do with access, nothing at all to do with campfires, etc.

Yes, CGs have fire rings, people cooking outdoors, people smoking, people talking, people playing music, people drinking, children, pets, generators, etc. that is the nature of communal areas where we are parked on slivers of ground. Most of the time we have had a great time and a few times some of the above, mainly the drinking, were way out of hand. But to truly avoid the above, one would have to purchase their own standalone land (not seasonal site) and camp solo.
I would welcome a neighbor smoking meat since I love to do the same and I'm always looking to pick up tips from others. And DH is a very friendly person and strikes up conversations easily with others. Most of our camping trips have been "destination" camping to see a site or tourist area, or overnight stops en route, so we don't for instance go to. A CG to sit for a week.

No, buy everyone shares the same space,, Camp Fires and Camping kinda go together!! There are Handicap spots for people with Handicaps.

There are other sites Not next to a Camper with a fire!! Kinda like getting upset at people sitting outside and talking!! Kinda goes with camping!!

I would not like a Bumpy campfire in the middle of the seventh tee!! Just doesnt belong!!

BBQ smoke and Camp Fire smoke go with Camping!!! If that has adverse affects on you then you should Not do it!! Don't make me change to suit you,, you need to blend in,, or blend out!!! what ever...
By the way,,, my wife has asthma!! when the smoke moves,,, she moves!!! but we always sit in on a fire EVERY trip!!! I am sure your doctor will recommend the same thing,, and if it is severe enough the Doctor will suggest you cease that activity!!!
Not once has her Doctor suggested that I make some one put out a cigarette, or tell some one to not burn leaves and such,,, He suggest if it bothers her to MOVE! get away from it!!
To tell some one they shouldn't cook a meal because the smell and smoke bother you is selfish..

So bumpy, smoke is the only problems that asthmatics have with the great outdoors? I have a couple of cousins that have that problem and they avoid too much outdoors because of the flora, not the smoke.

I've been smoking (w/3 different smokers/pits) for many years. If you are smoking properly, you will be producing what we call in the trade "TBS" (Thin, Blue, Smoke); way less than a campfire, barbecue, etc. Shouldn't bother anyone!!:)
