Our Food Saver V2240 is wearing out and the newer, Advanced V2240 is now priced at $229.00 on Amazon.

We are looking for a small, counter-top food sealer for the home.

Any suggestions ?

Thank you

PS: We bought a small, battery powered, food sealer for the RV. Name escapes me, but it works decently.

We're on our third FoodSaver, having worn out the first two. We seal commercial bags, use the FoodSaver rolls for vacuum sealing things to size, and have a collection of FoodSaver containers we regularly use. Also have the Mason jar sealers (large and small).

We do not normally have frozen foods go bad, because we learned to cycle our freezer stocks. No tossing stuff on top for us -- we actually move bottom to top regularly.

Since we retired and no longer eat out, you'd think the grocery bill would have gone up. Nope. Thanks to bulk buys, cooking mass quantities and freezing them in 1-2 servings packages, or just freezing bulk buys into 2-person sizes, we've cut the grocery bills.

Love our FoodSaver.

I have been using the V3485 for several years now and it works great for us. I seal all types of non food related stuff as well.

I do agree the assorted width rolls are better/easier/cheaper than the precut bags.

Yup! We don't seal everything and these are handy if you only need to protect a few things. We had a big one, but the cost outweighed the results.

I have been using a Compact II foodsaver for more years than I can count. Because it is small, it can have a place on my counter. It is used daily because I vacuum seal jars of dehydrated foods, for longer term storage, as well as the jars I put left overs into.

Since I have had it so long, I wanted another like it for back up when it fails. I watched Ebay and won a brand new one, with a slew of new bags, for far less than I paid for the one I am currently using. terry

We bought our FoodSaver at target for $80. It came with a roll. We like the rolls much better than the bags. You can cut to size. Since we bought our FoodSaver, we've bought e mason jar attachment and some containers. We use ours daily. We seal up bags of chips that we open with it. One of our better investments.

Question....these 200 dollar sealers you are talking about, are they about 10"
wide? Do they suck out all the air and then seal the plastic bag by
melting the plastic together?

If so, I have had one for 30 years and it still works great. I wash
out the clear 1 litre milk bags and use them for freezing veggies
from the garden.

I picked up 2 at our local second hand shop. One was brand new in
the box with three rolls of bags. I paid $1.75 each, LOL

I use my sealer almost daily.

The hand helds work great but you have to use special bags for most of them.

Unless I was a hunter or in a remote area where the nearest grocery/meat store required more than an hour drive to get to it, I wouldn't have a food saver.

We have used it off and on over the years and each time it seems like we buy a bunch of meat, cheeses, veggies and other foods....vacuum seal them and then end up throwing away about half due to :
Get tired of eating the same thing (mostly with the left overs)
The seal comes loose (not often)
The food has been in the freezer or pantry too long
Need room for newer food

So between the initial investment for the machine, the cost of the bags, the cost of the food, the time spent packaging the food and then the money wasted by throwing some of the food away....I feel it's better to just go to the local store and get it fresh.

Take a look at the QVC.com or HSN.com websites they both have several food sealers available.
