Annoying Chrome Pop-Ups

I'm getting a lot of annoying pop-up ads from Chrome browser while I'm browsing in the Edge browser, which I use most of the time. I have Chrome installed on my other laptop, and it's an OK browser. However, I use Edge and sometimes Firefox on my 2nd laptop and don't care to be bombarded by Chrome to install its browser. The pop-up blocker in Edge is turned on, but evidently Google has found a way to circumvent it. Either that or the blocker in Edge isn't up to par.

As Microsoft moves to the Google concept, new updates of Windows result in Windows "pop-ups" with suggestions that I move to "the new" Edge browser. No thank you. Microsoft is moving as quickly as it can to the Google model so staying with Microsoft is just allowing a different company to use your info.

I just moved to a Linux distribution (Zorin OS) on one of my Win-10 desktops that got corrupted with the latest Windows update and it is interesting how my Google cloud-based world works just fine without Windows under it and better in several ways.

You also need to understand that MicroSoft has also AUTOMATICALLY OPTED EVERY WINDOWS 10 USER INTO RECEIVING PERSONAL BASED "ADs" WHICH ARE BASED ON YOUR BROWSING EXPERIENCE.

Unless the OP has SPECIFICALLY OPTED OUT, those Chrome Browser popups could even be coming from that.

From HERE you can disable this stupidity..

"To turn off or remove ads in Windows 10, you will have to:

Visit Microsoft Account & Bing Dashboard to harden your privacy settings.
Open Settings > Personalization and disable ads for Lock Screen, Cortana and Start Menu.
Follow this procedure to turn off ads in Windows Ink Workspace, Skype, OneDrive in Explorer, Action Center, etc."


You may also NEED to visit your Google "dashboard" to check your ad preference settings there.

I have never had the need to do so but the OP IS using Win10 and I am not..

I have no care to move to Win10 any faster than I need to and lose more control of my privacy and data, not to mention the intrusive ads baggage that comes with it..

If your logged into Google while browsing on any browser, then that's half of your problem. I'm betting you see ads for stuff you've been looking at. Log out of Google and see how your experience will improve. AdBlock, NoScript are also good addons to use as has been suggested.

Well, there's your problem.

Edge is allowing gmail to INSERT Chrome "Ads" into your gmail pages.

Try FF with Adblock plus, if no Chrome install popups happen then EDGE is your issue.

I use Gmail all the time with FF and Adblock plus and have NEVER once had any Chrome install popups.

You have to understand that Gmail and Chrome come from the SAME place, GOOGLE and they like to ensure you use all of their stuff to gather as much info about you as possible.

You might also wish to consider using MS Internet Explorer instead of "Edge" which is still included with Win10 and most likely will be less problematic than Edge.

I have never seen a Chrome pop up when in Edge on my Windows box. Don't knwo why

THough Edge works very well for ONE web page (and that is a local page within mny motor home) I found it to be over advertised. does not live up to the claims that Microsoft makes. basically worthless. PLUS it reports every page you visit to Microsoft .

There's a misunderstanding here. I'm not receiving pop-ups on Chrome I get them primarily using Edge browser and especially when viewing my gmail accounts.

I'll give the other suggestions a try. Thanks.

In Chrome; go to "Settings" and scroll to bottom of page, then click "Advanced".
The next window down the page is "Privacy and Security". Look down that page and click on "Content Settings".
Look down that page for and click on "Popups"
Click on "Blocked" (the recommended setting).

Settings > Advanced > Content Settings > Popups > Blocked

This will seriously block popups. One should realize that not all popups need blocking. Some financial sites use popup windows and you will be locked out of some features. The Chrome "Allow" setting will provide a means to allow specific sites to use popup windows.

I run all three of these and never get popups in Chrome. You can whitelist sites that are safe if you want the popups from them.

You might give Ublock Origin a try. It gives uninterrupted browsing and so far not a thing has gotten through not ads or popups. I just read that Adblock plus is taking money from advertisers which is why it is increasingly worthless.
