In 2005 when we first hit the road, mobile roof mounted satellite equipment was $3,000. In 2007 we went with HughesNet dish and learned how to set it up ourselves. We only moved every six months to places too remote to have it otherwise. By 2011 we were no longer in the boonies 90% of the time so we dropped HughesNet. It was slow and it was time consuming to set it up and keep it working.

Now there seems to be something new out there... just passing on the info. It's still not cheap and it's still slow...

This is a very well needed tool for many Rvers that travel and need internet for work purposes. I myself would not be able to justify $99 a month and $1000 for the equipment setup.

Guess I will have to use Hotspots before I get somewhere to camp that doesn't have wifi service. But I guess auto's now come available with wifi so that's a plus too.

Slow compared to what? For those in the boonies satellite internet is a life saver. The new service will provide 1MB up and 5MB down compared to the old Hughes service of 0.1MB up and 1.2MB down. There are auto pointing roof mounted systems available for this service but they are currently too expensive for any RVer to justify. There will be more affordable (but still very expensive) units along soon. Currently the service is setup to be used with a tripod antenna setup and is reported to be very easy to learn and setup.
