Anyone used singlepoint for wifi

chiliman

I am will be working from my MH (part time) and I need a wifi connection wherever we are.

I realize mobile wifi is not 100% available but I am also aware campground wifi is not either.

I have been looking at the singlepoint 'wifi in motion' solution and I am looking for input from anyone who has experience with the product and plan (I will probably opt for the Verizon based plan).

Thanks.

Janis,

It was a pleasure meeting you and your husband (even if the weather was not the best).

You inquired as to whether I had used this unit in a remote location and I replied I had not.

This week we are in Huachuca City AZ. In this RV Park a number of folks with hotspots (typically smartphone hosted) are having issues even getting connected.

I am getting connected and while at times the exchange is slow I have been able to work every day with no great issue.

So this is not really quite remote but apparently the Verizon signal is not really strong here yet I am not impeded. Can't get DirectTV Satellite signal but no issue with internet via the singlepoint.

I believe the Moov box your husband is looking at is even more powerful. Of course we will still be dependent on the cellular service but apparently the technology of this unit is such that it helps with weaker service.

We do not do VOIP on this router. I use Ooma on at my fixed home and just have that forwarded to my Cell.

Also I do not normally do any streaming or gaming.

I just didn't want to spent all money for the equip if it did not work that well. Thanks again looking forward to seeing the set up

Cool, I was contemplating using my VPN and wasn't sure how much bandwidth.

Do you VoIP through your connection?

The unit I bought was 650.00 I believe (I don't have the record right in front of me) but you should get a quote from the vendor.

I got 10 gig per month for 70.00 per month (again check with SinglePoint to get up-to-date pricing.

As I said I don't have the optional software to show usage so I am not sure of my usage thus far.

However, with another hotspot I used temporarily, I rarely got near the 10G limit. So I expect 10G will be sufficient for me. If you plan on doing a lot of streaming or gaming you might want more.

One of the things SinglePoint provides is you can use the campground WiFi through your router thus applying security which typically does not exist on campground WiFi.

You can also use this router with wired ethernet as well as cellular or WiFi.

Also with the hardware I have you can have 2 SIM cards and it will automattically find the strongest signal. I have that option but noot activated as I don't need it yet.

You also have the ability to define a guest login (unsecured).

About how much does it cost (if you don't mind me asking) and about how many GB per month do you use?

We will be stopping in Deming on 1/6/2016. If you can meet us at our gas stop, I would be happy to have you see the unit and also see it in operation.

Janice,

I did get SinglePoint.

There was an issue in accessing my work VPN. I work from my MH.

Support finally did get that working and I am using it now.

I did not have any issue with normal internet (although we don't do streaming or gaming) just VPN access for my employer. That though was important.

It ended up being a firmware upgrade needed. Once that was applied I could easily access my work VPN.

I went with a single SIM and that is Verizon. Thus far I have been working from the MH for 13 days and travelled over 1000 miles. I did not expericence any loss of service on my route.

I have a week scheduled in San Saba TX where I don't think there is any Verizon service. The CG has supposedly good WiFi but we will see.

I used the Verizon coverage map to anticipate low service at the locations I intend to stay.

The monthly per/gig service fees from SinglePoint are competitive with direct from Verizon.

I just have the unit on a shelf plugged into a outllet my inverter services while travelling. I leave it there while on shore power. There is an optional 12v power connector available which I have but have not used as of yet.

I have it right in the front of our rig and have no problem getting signal anywhere in the 40 foot rig or outside.

I was prepared to screw it down (there is the ability to do that) but thus far I have not found it neceessary. I have it sitting on a piece of shelf liner.

I did not get the optional control software which allows me to monitor the usage. I will determine soon whether I need that or not.

Anything more information I can relay?

Did you decide to use single point? If not what are you using? We use the internet a lot. Any information would be appreciated. Janice Cox email is nurso52@gmail

I am about to get an idea of their Verizon plan but the references (again from singlepoint) I have chatted with all indicate singlepoint's plan is discounted from Verizon (possibly other carriers as well). If that is true I suspect they can do that as a part of their remarketing agreement. I will find out when I get a quote from them.

...

The attractiveness is this is a system assembled to work seamlessly together.

If this single point is cheaper per month than a regular Verizon connection than I can understand. However I don't see how anything could be less seamless then just using your phone as a hotspot.

My smartphone hotspot has been my only wifi for the past 4 months, and has never needed maintenance or jerry-rigging. It just works.

Speed is 10x my home wifi speed, in a city, and varies from there depending on location, etc.
