AT&T Unlimited Price Increase

Just got a notice that AT&T is increasing their unlimited data service by $5.00 per month as of March. They just did the same last year, so it looks like they are really pushing to get rid of the grandfathered accounts. Since it would mean going from my current $40.00 per month to $100.00 per month, I suspect I'll keep the old plan.

Thanks for the kind response. I read this part......

Glad you completely understood it. I did not. I guess you are just that much smarter than me. That's OK, too.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.

OP didn't say anything about leaving his plan. He simply pointed out that there was another increase, intended to try to drive existing grandfathered plan members away, and said in closing that he intends to still keep the plan.

Try reading the whole post.

So what's the big deal about a $5/month increase? Leave an excellent plan in protest!??

Because the plans at AT&T in this data usage range start at $100 for 15 gig with rollover of unused data for one month. So the next step if the OP leaves the $40 plan is $100.

Email. This is a grandfathered unlimited that throttles after 22GB. Only works with the phone, no tethering - I have a Verizon jetpack I use for most of my data. It started out at $30.00 with my first iPhone, went up $5 last year & even with the additional $5 this year, will be cheaper than switching to any of their current plans since I usually use 8-10GB per month while traveling.

Just got the email this evening. Yup, my son is on that same plan. As you say, still cheaper than the current plans.

hmmm... I have a phone on the AT&T unlimited data plan. Haven't seen the notification of increase. In fact, my son (who has the phone on this plan), just upgraded/replaced his phone.. Still unlimited... still same price.

I'll have to keep an eye on it though.

How did you get notified? Email or letter?

Thanks for the heads up.

Cricket offers an unlimited plan that doesn't throttle to 2g after any amount. The plan itself only sees 8mbs which is plenty for surfing or streaming and you can use as much of it as you want. Also includes Canada and Mexico.

Cricket is owned by AT&T and operates on AT&T's network.

Hi,

My t-mobile is 3G and I find it works well. It throttles at 28 gigs of hot spot now and is unlimited 2G after that. On the device itself the connection is LTE which I understand is 4G?

If its unlimited without throttling speeds, than its worth the increase in price. I have 4G LTE hotspot with T-Mobile which is unmetered and does not throttle. Though costs more.
