Best GPS for a motorhome?

I currently have a Garmin RV 760LM but find that it works very poorly while traveling. It seems to avoid problems that aren't there and takes me through streets that I have no business on. It has directed me several times on routes that would be 40-100 miles longer than a route that I had traveled before. I have tried to re-set the vehicle info but that doesn't seem to help. Any idea on a better model for a motorhome?

I've used a Rand McNally RV7720 for several years now, both for the RV and for driving a 45' charter coach. Great features, Very reliable.

have that gps. works fine for me. couple of issues. (1) kept rerouting me. Found that it was rerouting me around a low clearance railroad trestle. (2) another reroute in a town. found low weight limit bridge was the issue. Both saved me problems. Found the issues through internet check after the gps reroute.

as for owners using a smart phone or tablet... you must never come to south Texas.. ATT & Verizon does NOT have good coverage here.

CoPilot does not need cell or wifi service....just GPS.

First NEVER use shortest distance. NEVER.

check the avoid routes... you may have a setting wrong.

other wise do a Full Reset...

Many . I mean Many use the Rv760 for years with little trouble.

I have the 2597 and the Truck 770LMTHD..

Garmin discontinued the RV 760 some months ago... and NOW are about to release the NEW RV770. so its a good product.

all else.. contact Garmin Customer Service..
maybe you have a defective one... or some program ERRORS..

Seems strange that you are having problems I had had not problems with mine - I think you need to review your settings again

That seems (to me) to be a fairly common problem across all the brands that I have used. Garmin and built-in's in a Toyota and a Ford. They all seem to do strange things at times.

Looking at a map each morning to get roughly familiar with the route helps. So does watching the map on the screen as you approach towns. Some of the craziness is easy to spot (and avoid) if you watch the screen instead of blindly following the voice prompts.

Bottom line: A GPS should be used ONLY as an aid. YOU are still responsible for not getting yourself into trouble.

I used the free version of CoPilot, plus 10 bucks for voice navigation, on my 7" tablet on my last trip of about 3300 miles and was very pleased with it. It has an RV setting also. Nice thing about it is you can preplan your trip and save it. I preplanned all legs of the trip before I left home and loaded them up as needed.

I don't know how good it will be, but Garmin will be shipping their recently introduced RV 770LM within a month
