Cell Phone Updtes without WiFi?

On both the Samsung and I Phones on our plan we keep getting messages that we need to connect to a WiFi so that the phone can update. We are on an ATT plan with unlimited data.

Is there a setting on the phones that will allow updated by use of the data? We figure so but have not found it. Thanx

Turn hotspot on the Samsung, update iphone
Tomorrow turn hotspot on the iPhone on, update Samsung

Assuming the Samsung is Android, you should be able to update over cellular data
On my S4, settings / more / software update

Although I turned mine off more than a year or two ago, using another program on my pc that I down loaded to access the S4
Back when I was afraid an update would kill pdanet and foxfi
My S4 does everything I want, I don't need a new look & feel,
But I said ' No' to update every mouthing for six months, before I found the way, to stop the notifications

I use PDAnet+ and Foxfi a lot with my Samsung S4 and it has the latest updates. Works without any problems at all.

I agree on the S4. Don't need one of these new phones since the S4 does all I ask of it and is able to take a nice large capacity mini SD card also.

Thanks. You can always edit a post. it's never 'too late'

Thanks for the info. We do not have hot spot on the program so it is WiFi for us (we have it in the house).

The grandsons who are on the plan can go to McDonald's.

i stay away from there. If that stuff effects plumbing like it stinks up my vehicle, well i don't know about that. :W

Att on some unlimited plans won't allow hot spotting so using one phone to update the other won't work since you can't hotspot . If you can that's a great idea. As others say find a fast hotspot. I went to the Apple Store and stood there while it updated. The hotspot was very fast and it still took almost 2 hours on the big new OS download a few months. I'm backed up to the cloud and have over a hundred apps that had to be reloaded.

On my Verizon phone it depends on if youโ€™re talking about updating the Apps or the OS.

The applications are much smaller to update then the Operating System

You can set the Apps to manually update or auto update. They will update from the cell connection just fine.

The OS is another matter it wonโ€™t update unless you are connected to WIFI.

At least that's the way Verizon Iphone works.

I'll have to check but as I recall YES there is.. Hold on..

Have you tried Settings | About device | download updates manually?

Option 2: Lunch at McDonalds (AT&T WiFi)
Also you can go to many other stores Grocery stores, Other restaurants, Staples (office supply) Lowes, Home Depot,, Many other stores have free Customer Wi-Fi but since you are AT&T customers McDonals is for you

Heck, even my local Fix Or Replace Daily (FORD) delaler has customer Wi-Fi, as did my Cherovelet dealers back when I lived in Detroit.

No usually. It requires a wifi connection because it is so large. Go to a library, Starbucks, or some other place with an open wifi, connect, and download. One of the places we have hosted the internet is so bad we have to go 15 miles to town each week and do this.
