Dish Update

Just a follow up on the dish not giving their discounts - for existing customers.

I've read through this, and today, I reached out to dish to cut off the service at my S&B.

Once I held for the 25+ minutes, the Customer Service Rep and I had a great chat - and offered to restore all my discounts that I had under my previous billing cycle.

The unfortunate part of it, I had already done my research and found that what I wanted (channel lineup) was available, via streaming - at one sixth the cost.

The point is, if you're losing your discounts, call to request them being reinstated and if they cancel, then call the 800 number to cancel your service and they will reinstate the discounts.

Just sharing my own experience.

Stay Safe,

josh

Satellite TV is STILL THE BOMB if you are a full time RVer. We have been living in our RV since 1997, traveling full time since 2000 and have no S&B backup plan. If we are home the TV is on and we are both on our computers, checking our phones, playing games and just doing what everyone does in a house.
Not ready to give up satellite TV and even timmac agrees that for many RVers, satellite TV is still the very best option.
Satellite TV is not going anywhere. I do expect one service to buy the other with DISH buying DTV as the best option. The problem is the incompatibility of the 2 systems and the costs required to either keep 9 satellites in orbit or change all the DISH customers antennas to the more favorable DTV satellites.
Keep in mind that timmac is a very part time RVer and when he does travel he has an unlimited BUSINESS internet plan so his view of the real world for the rest of us is highly jaded.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

At our house we have a hard time keeping 2 computers on line let alone streaming. Satellite is the only thing we have.

Streaming does not work for everyone and is not available everywhere. If you don't leave your home where you have high-speed internet, I suppose it is great. For those of us that travel, maybe not so much. We spend lots of time in places that don't even have cell service, let alone internet for streaming. Add to that the cost for data to do any serious streaming while on the road, and it will probably cost more than satellite. We do have occasions where the trees block the sats, but that is seldom and we can often just move to another spot in the same park and problem solved. The demise of satellite has been discussed for years, yet they are still around and will be for some time to come. If streaming works for you, great, but know the limitations first before you dump everything else if that is your favorite form of entertainment. Get all the facts rather than opinions. We'll hold on to our Dish subscription for a while. Chuck

Everyone knows streaming is the way of the future. Sat companies are hemorrhaging billions trying to stay relevant. They charge a lot for content no one wants. And it's clunky. I can stream everything I want for 1/4 of what Sat companies charge for content I don't want. Why have they had their heads in the sand? If they embraced streaming and evolved like the rest of the planet they could have morphed into a business model that made sense.

X2

And another great thing about streaming thru the net you don't have to call anyone for service or to hook up the box at your home and you can cancel any TV program at anytime without a phone call.

Easy and cheap..

Yeah, i read an article this week about their massively declining customer base and financial losses. I wouldnt expect them to be around for too much longer.

disclaimer: i have never used anything than hard wired home cable or free internet streaming. i have no dog in the satellite wars.

I'll bet they are loosing lots of customers. I had Dish almost from the start of their service many years ago. Earlier this year I cancelled service for my two receivers. There were very few channels I was interested in and I had even not been watching them. I might have reconsidered if they offered al-cart channel choices with appropriate reduction in cost.
