Firefox Bookmarks

Well, on the computer I got in Dec. '12 and set up the bookmarks gradually and have updated Firefox as notices have come along, now with 23.0.1

It won't let me have bookmarks for the same webpage in more than one place.

Let's take the pages that give us regulated gas prices. I have bookmark headings for each province of Atlantic Canada. & I have one for camping.

By today's thinking I have a bookmark for each fuel page under each province and also for camping.

After all on one day I may think oh, check under the province.
Another day there may come a question in this forum about fuel for rving rigs and that day I'll check under camping.

So, how do I configure the current Firefox so that it will be practical and let me bookmark the same page under more than one topic?

Yah that grab/drag I knew was not for duplocating, but I kept wondering "what URL does he mean" cuz I could noy grab what was in the address box. Finally, though, I grabbed the globe icon in front of the URL, and that was draggable. The tab drag was just an accidental find when I missed the globe.

burlmart,

Do you understand why dragging/dropping a BM from one place to another didnt work?

It is the same as using Windows Explorer or MyComputer with a file. You are "moving" the original rather than "copy/duplicating" the BM.

Same reason for drag/drop of a tab. You are not moving the original BM but a copy to another folder.

Glad you got things figured out ๐Ÿ™‚

Copy/Paste works fine here for multiple entries of the same bookmark on my copy of Firefox 23.0.

If you want to name you're bookmark, then you just need to do it for the first saved one:

  • Drag the bookmark to the first folder.
  • Right-click and select Properties.
  • In the Name: box, type a custom title for the bookmark, and click SAVE.
  • Hold down "CTRL+Drag bookmark to another folder". This will create a copy of the bookmark with the custom name.

Or you can custom name each bookmark entry if desired.

I only use drag and drop for all my bookmarks. You can quickly insert the same bookmark in multiple folders.

Hold down CTRL+B(PC) to open Firefox Bookmarks Manager, and drag and drop the bookmark's favicon into as many folders as you like.

A. I'm v. 23 AS I SAID BEFORE, in 1st paragraph of thread starter entry.

This drag idea,well it's slow.

I click on
- Bookmark this page
- Up comes Edit this bookmark function with options.
- Bookmarks Menu is preference unless it's bookmarks toolbar ( & if needed, I do new folder before I get serious about setting up a new bookmark)
- So, now, you've got page name up in frame one, bookmarks menu in frame two and further down the folders/topics/subjects Cursor down to one you want and click on it. then click done.
- if you have this page bookmarked elsewhere, software will bring up that heading/topic name, folder name, subject name.

I tried pasting somewhere in these Edit bookmark steps and I think you have to do something extra.

AGAIN I say adding a # or some change at the end of the webpage name will work and the additional location is made.

For more than one bookmark, By way of illustration I'll give a non-rving example. Let's take a webpage about forestry by a local group. A few places to file that would be: ecology, provincial name, & trees. Most used by me are: trees and provincial name. Why: great tree identifier section, & local connections for provincial name topic.

OK

I have been grab/dragging a bookmark already placed in the bookmarks list, but you want to grab/drag the url address from the search/address box. That works just as you say

also, you can grab/drag the tab to do same

Solved for all, I hope

if you are talking the bookmarks that pop in from the left side when I press the bookmarks icon on the nav toolbar (a white box w/ a star in it), then I grab-n-drag (left mouse button) to any folder and sure it moved there, butit is no longer where I dragged it from/

I can easily right click COPY, and right click PASTE it to as many folders as I want, and it will also remain where I first COPYed it.

Not trying to beat a dead horse but, strange. I just pulled a new copy of FX 23.0.1 and installed it. It works exactly as I described above.

Just to confirm:

- You have Fx open
- You have the bookmarks sidebar open
- Drag the current URL icon (doesnt matter which one) to a folder
- Drag the current URL icon (same one) to another folder

Check each folder at the bottom of the list for the URL. Should be in both folders.

Again I ask what version of Fx you are using? Mine works the same with the side bookmarks as opening the Bookmarks/Show All Bookmarks. I can drag an existing bookmark Icon from the URL bar to another folder and it will duplicate the bookmark.

I dont see the problem but there must be something different between your configuration and mine.

Dont need any plugin. ReadyToGo - you prompted me to go search and this is what I found.

Open the bookmarks folder. Just drag the URL icon to a new folder and its done! How simple.

I don't want to open anything. I have 24" display and want my Bookmarks visible and readily available down the left side. I also have my most used across the top in the Bookmarks Toolbar.
