Firefox Bookmarks

Well, on the computer I got in Dec. '12 and set up the bookmarks gradually and have updated Firefox as notices have come along, now with 23.0.1

It won't let me have bookmarks for the same webpage in more than one place.

Let's take the pages that give us regulated gas prices. I have bookmark headings for each province of Atlantic Canada. & I have one for camping.

By today's thinking I have a bookmark for each fuel page under each province and also for camping.

After all on one day I may think oh, check under the province.
Another day there may come a question in this forum about fuel for rving rigs and that day I'll check under camping.

So, how do I configure the current Firefox so that it will be practical and let me bookmark the same page under more than one topic?

:h
& I, I took the road less travelled by.

That MOVES it, but you want to COPY/PASTE, and that works fine in the bookmarks sidebar that pops up from a bookmark icon you can install on the navigation toolbar (it goes nwxt to the back and foeward arrows)

If you don't have this setup, then use the two-step copy/paste/drag procrdure I described earlier on the Bookmarks Menu.

If your Bookmarks contain a folder called 'Recent Bookmarks,' I think it ought to be deleted - I think this fixed the problem many of us seemed to have.

Should have first asked what version of Fx are you using?

If I have the bookmarks open and URL open and current I can duplicate by dragging the URL Icon to another folder.

To test:

Open your bookmarks and select Show all Bookmarks
Drag the current open URL to two different folder locations
Check each folder and see if the current bookmark is there

To delete when done just highlight and press delete for each one.

Dont need any plugin. ReadyToGo - you prompted me to go search and this is what I found.

Open the bookmarks folder. Just drag the URL icon to a new folder and its done! How simple.

Schneid has the correct plugin answer. And the copy and paste is also a correct answer.
This took a number of searches before I found where these solutions were.

Well I am experiencing the same thing as Little Kopit. I don't get any msg but the first one goes away and the second one stays. It sure was that way before. I don't need them in two places like LK does so it isn't important to me. I will research this one further.

I just tried it. Same as cccchuck. I copied from one folder to another and both are there and both work. HMMMM

Sorry, that's not it. I said I do that. If you do that for the same page for two topics/headings/folders it deletes ALL but the LAST ONE CLICKED. It should be ok to put a webpage under MORE than ONE Topic!!!!

As I have said, none us thinks the same way all the time. You're saying what I said in different words illustrates that point in spades.

Other versions of Firefox let me put the same webpage under more than one topic/subject/folder. There should be a setting to do so in this one.

:C

Maybe I'm not following this, I just put a bookmark for this page in one folder in my bookmark bar and then same page in another, both stayed Am I missing the point?

I'm also not experiencing this issue. I can bookmark the same webpage in one or multiple folders with no problem Firefox 23.x?

Heck no, after all why do libraries have 'see also's'?

Can there be a webpage about only one subject???? Maybe, but the creator would have to work very hard to make such a page.

I'm far more interested in organizing ideas so as to be able to find them when I think they have something to offer me.

& I'm more apt to use slightly different words in a search for my 'topic of the day'.

Crazy

Now all I do is press the menu title โ€˜Bookmarksโ€™, find one I want to copy using right click, and paste it near the folder I want to put it in (will not go into the folder directly). Then I grab it and place it over the folder title, and there it is - a duplicate copy in a diff folder.

Did this in about 4 foldere, exited FF and reloaded, and they were all still there. Could not do this first thing this morningโ€ฆ

But, this maybe important: FF had a folder at the bottom of the bookmarks list called โ€˜Recent Bookmarksโ€™, and just before the succesful copy/pasre above, I had just emptied it (which made the folder vanish)

As i said, I do NOT have this problem and I may know why. I am on Firefox 23.0.1. I use an add-on called "Old Bookmarks Sidebar". It creates a hierarchical tree down the left side of my FF window. I can do pretty much anything I want in it just like in Windows Explorer. Copy, move, paste, create dupes, etc. FF removed this feature awhile back.

Add it back here:

Mine lets me have multiple copies of the same bookmark.. But it will complain "You already have this on your system" type complaint.. Just click the "Save the new one anyway" button and it will do so. At least I think it will.. Let me check.. Well test failed, it did not even complain.

With Firefox you can determine if you have already bookmarked a URL by the presence/absence of the star at the right end of the URL. Clicking the star will bookmark a URL if not already bookmarked.
- If present it is NOT bookmarked.
- If absent it is bookmarked.

If it is bookmarked and you want another copy you should be able to select Bookmarks/Show All Bookmarks.
Then Enter something in the search box (upper right corner) to locate the existing bookmark.
Right click and select Copy.

Navigate to the folder you want to place it and right click - select Paste.

Does this not work for you?

Then to locate and remove the dups I dont want, I use this addon although it has not been updated since 2009 - but still works fine and I am running Fx 26.0a1 Nightly. This will list all the duplicates and where they exist. You select which one(s) you dont want and delete them.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bookmark-duplicate-detector/

There are other Bookmark Duplicate Cleaners if you want something more current.

Indeed FF is screwy. I have a bookmark duplicated in two diff folders, but I cannot do it again (using RV.net Tech Corner as the page to bookmark)

It appeared to be working yesterday, but maybe I never exited and then reopened FF, at which time only one instance of a bookmark will remain.

You are correct; there seems to be a bug
