How do I hook up old DVD player to new HDMI TV

I have an older Sony DVD with the Red/White & Green/Blue/Red plugs, or I can get a Red/White/Yellow.

I have a new TV with HDMI only plugs.

Is there an adapter I can buy to plug the R/W & G/B/R plugs in one end with an HDMI plug on the other end to plug into the Television?

If so, does Wal-Mart have them?

Thanks!

Are you really so foolish to think all VHS movies are on DVD? If so, I would like you to provide the source for Medicine River (1993) on a DVD. It is only on VHS. I have been looking for it for years and I am not the only one.

This Component Adapter worked for me, I found it in the paperwork that came with my TV set.

Here it is:

OK, that "Component Adapter" cable that came with the TV booklet stuff worked with the old DVD player. We have had this TV for a couple years, it is HDMI, and just bought it to use in the trailer bedroom on trips.

I know I can go buy a new Blue Ray, I already have one in the Living Room at home and don't want to buy more equipment.

I had this extra (non-HDMI plug) DVD player that I just wanted to put in the basement for a couple weeks with the extra trailer TV so I can use the DVD player to watch a training video course for work.

Hate to throw it out...and now it works, didn't have to go buy anything:)

Thanks everyone.

DUDE!! HDMI is the way to go! 1 wire for everything. Less mess, less fuss. You don't need to buy overpriced wires. monoprice.com has good affordable wires. And, it isn't like the old analog days, where paying extra for cables gives you better video and audio. With digital, either the 1's and 0's go through, or it doesn't.

Ok...think I got it figured out. It is a Samsung Series 5 (5000/5010) LED TV.

I found the booklet and in the baggie I found a "Component Adapter" cable.

One end has the Red/White Audio with the Red/Green/Blue plugs...the other end has a Seafoam Green square plug with 2 prongs that go into the TV set where is says AV IN and COMPONENT IN.

Going to go see if I can get it to work and will try and find a picture of it to post.

My somewhat newer VIZIO has the input/output connectors all grouped together on the back but also has a edge panel of connectors for alot of video and audio input/output connectors that the user can get to easy...

As popular as the RED WHITE YELLOW video/audio connector are I am surprise you TV doesn't have them somewhere...

We carry the stand alone WALMART $35 DVD movie player that uses the RED WHITE and YELLOW connector set with us all the time when camping...

That's the best route. Otherwise, a Component to HDMI converter box would cost the same or more than just buying a basic Bluray Player. And you'd be able to play DVDs and Bluray HDs, both of which would already be digital video/audio. The box would have to convert analog component video and audio signals to digital for HDMI. Likely resulting in an picture lacking in overall sharpness.

OK. Thanks for replies, thought there might be a simple cable but I'll look at replacing the old DVD.

X2 DVD player are cheap.

Sony DVD Player with HDMI out - Amazon Prime $39

But, something like this would work, too.

Monoprice.com Component Video w/coaxial audio to HDMI

You will see wires with the right ends. If you notice by the reviews and ratings, they only work in special applications. These wires DO NOT CONVERT the analog signal to digital. You can get one and see if it works. But, I highly doubt they will.

I can't believe there is any TV cheap enough to only have one input. Have you read the TV manual yet?

If that is the case use the coaxial cable.
