Hello all, we are now fulltimers and looking at Hughes net for net acess. Does anyone use it? Is it worth the cost?
This year
Mobile Sat Internet Options for RVers have tripled.
HughesNET used to be the only (practical) game in town, but now there's
RVDataSat840 (automatic) and
RTC's KU Band (manual portable).
The RVDataSat840 has several data plans -- the yearly plan costs $1000 for 100GB (or 8.33GB/mon @ $83.33/mon). However, RVDataSat840 is
pay-as-you-go -- no long-term contracts. It's one button operation and sat coverage is practically all of North America. Bad news -- the automatic dish costs about $6000 installed.
RTC's KU band portable costs $1000 for the dish, and $99/mon for 20 GB data. Also, there is an 18-month contract. In addition, currently RTC's offering only covers the continental US -- not Canada or Mexico. Finally, RTC's portable sat is designed to pick up
spot beams -- so aiming should be more intense than the old HughesNET.
