Ice Cream Sandwich

When used in reference to a cell phone, what does the term "ice cream sandwich" imply? We just acquired our first "Smart Phones" and are trying to learn the terminology.

You really don't think that was accidental do you???? The Bionic has been out long enough it is about time for an upgrade, they just wanted to help you with the decision process:B

And for those that could never figure out what "Froyo" was, it is an acronym for "Frozen Yogurt".

New releases are NOT available on all Android phones. If the phone manufacturer chooses not to update their phone you are stuck with whatever version you had. Not that this is a bad thing, but my wife and I have Android phones which are less than 6 months different in age. My Galaxy says updated but her phone still have the software from the day it was purchased.

Yep, exactly how it works!

What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

Don't worry about it, you'll be on Jellybean soon enough. ๐Ÿ˜‰

And how do you know this?

The OP didn't say what Android version his phone was running and, hopefully, his new phone already runs Jelly Bean. On the other hand, although Jelly Bean was released in July, 2012, only 28.4% of Android users are using Jelly Bean, and only 2.3% are using the major release (from 4.1.x to 4.2.x), which was made available in February of this year.

It is the bane of the Android ecosystem; even if the manufacture or carrier promises you that the phone will be upgraded to the the next OS (or even the current one), there is no assurance that the promise will be kept, and there is many instances of no upgrades made available, even when previously promised.

BTW, Key Lime Pie, the next version of Android is due out in this quarter.

Yup, desserts. All of the Android releases are named using that convention. The first letter is the next letter of the alphabet and then some dessert with that name.

Cupcake
Donut
Eclair
Froyo
Gingerbread
Honeycomb
Ice Cream Sandwich
Jellybean - Most current release

The next release will start with the letter K, Key Lime Pie.

After looking at my phone, I see nothing that relates to Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, or anything else related to food. All I see are a bunch of numbers ans letters so how does that relate to food?
