Just a hassle

I bought a few things from CW at the Tampa RV Super Show last month.
Shortly afterward, I got an email with a $10 Camping World Merchandise Certificate. The email said: "As a token of our appreciation for your business, please accept the merchandise certificate below worth $10 off your next purchase. Just print out this email and take to any Camping World Supercenter nationwide or redeem by calling our call center at 1-800-626-5944. ..."

CW put their chrome Oxygenics shower head on sale so we went by their store in Dover, FL which was out of stock. Called their Summerfield, FL store with the same result. So, with the sale ending soon, I decided I better order it by phone and pay the shipping, figuring the merchandise certificate would offset the shipping expense. When I tried to place the order, first the rep told me the item is on backorder there as well. I said ok, I could wait. Then she told me I couldn't use the certificate over the phone and after receiving the order at an undetermined future date, I would have to send in the certificate by snail mail to get the $10. I didn't ask, but I'll bet it would be in the form of a gift card. My certificate expires next month, so I guess if I didn't get the order in time, I wouldn't be able to use it anyway. I thanked her for her time and did not place the order.

Too many other buying options to waste my time on this one.

If they send you a coupon to thank you for your business, Why even have a expiration date?

I was the OP on this thread that seems to have digressed a bit. But anyway, I thought I would followup on the results. The manager of the Dover (Tampa), FL store called me as a result of the post. She attempted to obtain the showerhead from another store but was unsuccessful. She agreed to take my shipping information and have the item sent to me when it became available. As it turned out, we were in the Tampa area today and went by the store to pay for it in person. In the interim, they got a supply in and I was able to get one at the sale price with my raincheck and coupon.

I appreciate the efforts of the Tampa manager. My only comment is that the waste of her time and mine could have been avoided if the CW call center would accept coupons when an order is placed. The coupons are uniquely numbered so they shouldn't be able to be used more than once. Anyway, problem is now solved.

I just went to the CW site and put all 3 shower heads in my cart and went to check out..none came back as out of stock. So after I would have payed, would I have gotten an e mail saying backordered? If so that's not right

Probably, I think that has happened before....It's happened to me at Amazon before as well.

CW promised $10 off on merchandise purchased by a certain date. They did not promise $10 off of a specific item. The OP could buy anything else and receive the discount. I believe CW is not required to honor the coupon past the expiration date.

It is unfortunate CW is out of stock on the shower head; however, the sale catalog is made up far in advance of it reaching our mailbox and items expected to be on sale are not available. This is not unusual in the retail, catalog business. CW could give a raincheck on the sale item but I still don't believe they're required to extend the coupon date.

I agree there is something wrong with on-line purchasing. The site should clearly indicate out-of-stock items before you put in your credit card information.

This is simple to make right and doesn't take a whole "team".
Have your order entry people call the OP, take his order and let him use his certificate.
That's it. Period.
