We use our BATWING ANTENNA to pull in OTA HDTV from the local towns... Works great for us and very seldom we are in a NO TV ZONE... Even works in Gober TX...
Using the internet the best site I have found is CBSN.com.... This is an ON-LINE 24/7 NEWS like CNN FNC MSNBC etc... Of course you will need internet connection either through your cell phone or like we have using a VERIZON MIFI box. The MIFI box here is a VERIZON JETPACK less than $50 a month from Verizon. Allows us to check in with the kids, pay a few bills, surf the internet some, and occasionally download a TV show or movie... We connect to the Internet through the Verizon system. It is just like at home as I carry my same LAPTOP with me and just log into the MIFI BOX to check in. I get all my mail and log in to all my forums like this one just like we at home using Metrocast (now called Atlantic Broadband). You can sign up for more dataplan if you like. I am using 7GBs per month on this new to me JETPACK. Was using a 3GB dataplan per month and of course a one hour movie downstream will kill 1GB real quick hehe... You can do the same thing with your cell phone but I like using the MIFI BOX as it will allow all of our Tablets, and computers to use it through the MIFI local secured HOT SPOT that is generated...
Like others we gave up on depending on the WIFI from the camp grounds etc. Camp grounds work but when it starts getting lots of folks on their system then it slows down to a baby crawl... Forget that ... bring along your own secure WIFI HOT SPOT and you are using of who ever has your login password...
This is what we have been doing since 2009 and works out great for us...
The VERIZON Service is the only dependable connection service for us in our somewhat local travels but I think a couple of the other big name providers may be catching up now...
This is not what you need however if you want to downstream lots of things like on HULU NETFLIX etc... using a bunch of data... Paying for data could get expensive... For us we like the usual laid back camping mode life off to ourselves somewhere and then when we settle down for the night like to check in with the kids and watch some HDTV to catch up on the News and any bad Weather that might be heading our way... Setup listed here does that for us just fine...
