Android phone ... when I open a website, sometimes its best viewed in Horizonal mode for viewing. Mine does it with T-Mobile and I believe that means the website we're looking at has an app that goes from V to H automatically.

Some websites auto-switch from V to H, some don't. Is that an app?

Does I-phone also change to Horizontal automatically?? Or does it take a special app on the website you are viewing. Thanks M44

Some web page designers design their page so it can best be viewed on a portable device in PORTRAIT mode.

Some only want it to be viewed in LANDSCAPE

And some.. The better ones.. query the phone "What mode are you in"
and ship the page version that looks best in that mode.

I’ve got several apps that do not support landscape mode which is very annoying when wanting to use my iPad with a keyboard. This is a developers problem and not the device.

My iPhones have always flipped automatically from horizontal to vertical on every web site I ever recall visiting. Some web sites do display much better one way than the other. This site, example, is much easier on the eyes horizontally than vertically. No special app, just the Safari browser that comes on the phone.

That being said, web sites do have to be platform aware. A page that looks great on a 21 inch monitor is going to be insufferable on a phone screen.

That's kinda what I thought ... was wondering tho, if a website needs a different app for I-phone than for Android because some websites work with my Android, and some don't. Same with some apps are for Android and some for Mac, and maybe a Mac building a website will not go from V to H on an Android.

Now, I'm just curious - technology both intrigues me, and baffles me. No training in it, but use programs a lot, like everyone these days. Should ask my grandkids. Age ten and up seem to know everything about it nowadays.

I do know, some programs work and look different on Mac screen than on a PC screen. MSW and PS for example. Altho, I use a PC, a few of my friends use a Mac and it always seems different visually.

I think the website itself has to be 'phone' compatible. If the web site itself is not set for that, then it does not matter what phone, service, browser you use... It just won't work.
