I recently converted several 8mm video tapes to DVDs using my dvd player/recorder. I want to take clips from several different dvds and make one movie. i.e. Grandkids shots in age progression order. The program must be simple to use (emphasis on simple) and reasonable in price. I tried Windows Movie Maker that was on my laptop but don't think it will do what I want. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks for the comments. I've ordered the Sony Vegas movie studio platinum 12 from Amazon for $27.50, no tax. Should be in by Monday.

I use Wondershare Video Editor. I got it on sale for $10. The basic version was free. Works well.

Sony Vegas should do what you want

you will need to import "vob" files from the dvd and save them on the PC
then you will edit the vob files saving clips in MPEG2 format ( this is to not recode the video and therefore maintain quality )

you will then import the clips to create a NEW DVD ( this process is called authoring )

this is where you will layout the clips and design any menu format you may want

i use a program called "videoRedo" for most of my editing
and a program call "AVS2DVD" for the authoring/creating the DVD file
and a program called "ImgBurn" to actually burn the DVDs on the pc
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

Another user of Sony Vegas movie studio platinum here. Currently using the 13 version, but agree that the 12 version was easier to use. The 13 version was modified to include previous menu items as big icons for touch screens, which wastes screen real estate.

Vegas can seem intimidating, but movies can be created easily by just dragging video clips onto the timeline, then dragging them to overlap a bit for a simple cross fade, etc.

Sony Vegas movie studio 12 platinum. Under $30.00 on amazon.

I've used it to edit hundreds of videos and have used it to produce Dvds which I sell on Amazon.

Get v12; not 13
