satellite dish hook up

I have the King Tailgater thru Dish
works great hooking up the sat dish direct to the vip211z receiver and just run the cable out the front door.

if I hook the the sat dish cable to the rv cable connector outside, and the receiver to the rv cable connecter inside the rv... I receive an error of bad connection.

do I need different cables? Is my rv cable system not compatible with the sat cable?

It may be possible to modify your cable input (really, cable, not satellite) to work with your satellite setup. It requires an A/B switch and a bit of rewiring of the OTA/Cable switch but if you have no other splitter in the coach it's a pretty easy conversion if you have the tools and knowledge of working with coax.
A separate input is still the best option and you may find that there is a way to run another coax cable from some outside location to your receiver and use that when you need to.

Not likely to ever work connected to the cable hookup without some mods. I had the single coax input for cable. But near the TV there is a dual coax wall plate with a short coax jumper between the two coax connectors. Turns out the outside coax connection goes directly to that wall plate. By removing the jumper and using another coax cable from the wall plate to the sat receiver box, the Tailgater worked fine. To use park cable I had to put the coax jumper back in place.

To simply things I just bought a new external weather proof coax connector, drilled a hole in the outside wall of the 5er near the TV, added a new single coax wall plate in cabinet under the TV, connected the new outside connector to the new inside coax wall plate with a short RG6 coax cable, connected that to the sat box, and now can use the Tailgater without moving any jumper. Was pretty simple in my case as the TV is next to a side wall. And beneath the TV is a cabinet with an inside side panel I can remove and see the outside wall.

the direct connect for power makes sense...
nothing is ever simple..
the rv does have a spliter and booster for multiple tv's so appears that may be part of the problem ...

We had that problem.....direct line from inside to the Tailgator (no in-line switches). Turns out the line had slipped down and the slide was wearing thru the cable. 🙂 Once that was replaced and clipped up we've not had any more problems.

All of the 'golfball' sat dishes get their operating power thru the coax cable and must have a direct connection between the dish and the receiver box.

Most likely you have some in-line switches in your coach's interior coax. This is probably your problem.

One solution is to just run new coax line in your coach directly to the box.

I believe there are ways to rework the switches if you can get at them.

Hopefully someone also will chime in here.

I have a Winegard X2 and have the same problem. This is a common situation.

The Sat signal won't go thru all the splinters and antenna booster.

Most TT have two hookups on the outside, one for cable and one for Sat.
