Satellite RV

We travel six months a year in our RV and the other part of the year stay in our cabin. Up to about 6-7 years ago we used Direct TV, but got so mad at the lack of service, coverage and poor customer support that I dropped them. That was then and this is now. Weโ€™ve been using antenna most of the time, and some campground cable but would like to go back to satellite.

What would you suggest for service and equipment? Ideally we would like one set up that we could us in our RV and than move to our cabin.
Thanks

Not sure what 'signal' they'd be sending. If that's for reauthorizing, that's done by you online now.

Changing your service location with Dish is easily done with a quick 5 minute or so online chat session. I sometimes change it daily when we're on the move, and even changed it twice in one day on one occasion. The current automatic roof and portable dome dishes are pretty good at aligning themselves, not matter where you are. A clear line of sight in the right direction is always needed of course, making the portables more flexible.

We have DirecTV at home and in the RV. Over the years we have had good results dealing with problems that pop up. Not a long wait on the phone to talk to a real person. Keep saying AGENT.....AGENT...AGENT and it will happen. Now you can say "721" or whatever shows on the screen... over the phone....and sometimes the problem will correct itself. They grade out to a B+

What is 'lack of service' and coverage? I can't remember being anywhere I didn't get a signal.

Poor CS I can understand, but, once you are able to set it up, there's little reason to need customer support. If I do, the last thing I'm going to do is call them. It's waiting on hold, forever, with really crappy music. Chat is better.

Years ago when we had Direct we had a self tracking dome on our motorhome, after traveling several hundred miles the dome would not always lock and we would not always receive a signal. We would have to call the help desk for them to resend one. It was always a job to get hold of them. Also at the time we didn't always have service.

That was eight years ago and I was wondering if things have changes with either Direct or Dish, that was the main reason for this post and also was their a way I could use one system for our two locations. We're at one for 6 months and the other for six.

We move receiver/DVR from home to RV no problem as long as you have SE clearance when setting up. Also have a satellite finder app on phone to find satellite. Huge help when in trees

Personally I like Direc service. But I pay a few dollars a month extra for their service contract. With it I have direct access, and replacement equipment when I have a problem.

I also have DTV and have for 15 years.

But, I have never heard of "direct access" that you pay extra for. What exactly is Direct Access???

With Dish Pay-As-You-Go you do not get any of the first 12 month discounts. Your savings is in the months you do not use/pay. For full time use, I would go with a traditional install with extra box/dish in MH.

I just switched to DISH a month ago.
They have a new plan; $49.99 guaranteed 24/mo for 190 channels, no DVR or HD fees, one year free Netflix OR sports package, three months free Premiums. A second Joey is $8/mo.

If you sign up thru Good Sams you get $100 Camping World gift card.

$50 activation fee.

The installer sold me a second dish and splitter for $20 for the RV but he couldnt/wouldnt sell the LNB. I bought one on Ebay $20.

I understand you can use a Tailgater auto sat dish with DISH and get HD but read that people get mixed results with long cables.

I had trouble connecting the Hopper to wifi and their tech support was very good.

Dish offers a pay as you go plan for rver's...buy service as you need it one month at a time. You purchase and own the equipment. PPL motorhomes sells a dish tailgater bundle for $340ish that gives you the automatic antenna and a hd box.

Hard to beat if you are half timing unless you have sat tv at home and bring your box from home. Yes, customer service is in India. I have never had an issue....always helpful.

I can't believe anyone would pay for a service contract for fixing rented equipment, or to fix wiring/connections etc that they installed.
Yep, they tried it a couple times, but being a (DTV) customer for 15 yrs, and not under contract, they saw it my way real fast. They even tried to charge me a service call to tell me that it was my tree blocking the signal to their dish. The tree was there before the dish,...they put the dish in the way of the tree, not me !! Don't they know that little trees get bigger ?? I didn't pay.
Oh, the question ?? I don't like either service.

It is nice to call them anywhere I am and get a new receiver within 24 hours free of charge. Or new remotes, or free service calls. Dont really like paying either, but with the newest equipment a failure means no service unless you pay.

We do they exact same thing you used to with DirectTV. Move the receiver from the cabin to the TT. Have two separate dishes. Works great!
