Screen mirroring

Several new smart tv's and smart phones have a screen mirroring feature. Basically share your smart phone screen on your tv. I know my sony blu-ray dvd player has this feature. And I thought google's tv stick did this but I was wrong on that count. My goal would be to use my dish anywhere feature to screen mirror to the tv in my camper. I am wondering if anyone has been successful with this. Like I said my blu-ray player is supposed to but it seems that sony is not compatible with my particular smart phone (samsung g4 running droid version 4.3). I tried the same thing with my wife's laptop whihc is supposed to have this mirroring feature to the blu ray and it too did not work.

I bought a Windows 8 laptop a few years ago. Watching it's videos that played while it was configuring windows for the first time, I learned that it had widi (wireless display). It's demo said I needed an adapter for the TV called Push to TV. I got it at Best Buy for about $75. It took many calls to India but after some firmware fixes it worked great. It's video is hi def and surround sound gets sent to my surround sound box. Windows 8.1 then screwed it up but Windows 10 made it better again. I just got a Windows 10 tablet and it mirrors it's display to my TV perfectly. Your laptop or tablet need the proper hardware for it to work and I understand that some Android tablets have the ability also.

Google's CHROME TV device has limited mirroring ability. Basically I believe the "Hype" is way more than the delivery on Chrome.

However I purchased Chrome for a specific job.. Which it does do.. So I'm not displeased.. But I'm not pleased either.

You know that sounds like it may be the solution. I'll have to stop by best buy on my way home tonight and for less than 20 bucks if it doesn't work I'm not out much other than my time to get and return it.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 which will mirror to my home Sony Smart TV. The TV in my RV is not a smart TV so to mirror to that I tried a Chromecast. It worked but I found out that even to stream content directly from my phone an internet connection was required so I returned it.

My solution was to purchase an MHL to HDMI adapter cable. This plugs into the micro USB port on the phone and goes to an HDMI input on the TV. I bought the cable on Amazon: MHL to HDMI adapter

Miracast works between my Kindle HDX and TV via an Amazon Fire stick. Sometimes it's a bit fiddly and I have to restart something. Good syncing on video / audio except when viewing videos with a web browser (Chrome). For some reason those are out of sync consistently.

I have done the Miracast from a galaxy S6 to amazon fire box. It worked and I was just doing it for pictures but it was a bit slow when trying to sharpen up the pics on the tv.

I've mirrored our Samsung tablet to our TV using a Roku player. That was wireless and no delay either for the audio or video.

You don't need to buy a new LCD TV. Just buy a box which allows you to wireless cast your mobile device, such as Miracast for Android. In fact, a co-worker of mine no longer carries a notebook when traveling. He just uses his Samsung Note, Bluetooth keyboard w/trackpad, and his Samsung brand Miracast box. He connects it to an LCD HDTV in his hotel, or his pico projector, which acts as his monitor. Uses a remote Android client to connect to his home computer via WiFi or 4G LTE that does all the heavy lifting. So has access to all his WIN programs and files, and can also watch his local NFL games anywhere.

I use an AppleTV and mirror Amazon prime video from my phone or iPad.

Google Chromecast works well with their content (YouTube, Netflix, Play Music, Play Movies, etc.) but casting a browser is choppy and not well suited for video. And you need good WiFi for any of that content.

Same here when I mirror from my Galaxy to my Samsung TV - significant delay though the image quality is okay. It's no better or worse from the Galaxy to my Sony TV. I'm not sure if screen mirroring is really the best option for streaming. Perhaps some sort of wired connection would be better?

but I assume you would need wifi connection to the BR player and HDMI cable from the player to the TV
and would have to activate the player first via its built in function from the player menu, then link the phone to the player

but now i just use my media player connected to the internet via wifi

as i remember it the GoogleTV is supposed to connect to the internet via wifi and be controlled by your phone, isn't supposed to mirror your laptop ?

Some newer tv's no longer need the hdmi cable thing you describe. They simply "broadcast" the screen via wifi from the phone to the tv.

I have yet to see this work anywhere and did spend the $35 for the google dongle which proved not to work so I took it back when I realized it was not going to do what I was thinking.

Fairly sure if you try to mirror to a Sony you'd need hardware like an Allshare hub. Samsung mirrors best to Samsung.

Sorry I don't know more about the S4 mirroring.

Thanks for the info. I'm glad I didn't spend a bunch of money trying to get this working. I'll just have to be happy with dvd movies or OTA channels. I've found the redbox app is a pretty cool thing. You can reserve a movie at any nearby redbox location and drop it off anywhere.
